    Cooper.

“I won’t consider it unfortunate. It’s my job now, and if I get sent then so be it. I don’t want your sympathy. The support of my family members and friends here is enough. I’m actually wanting to be deployed so I can get some experience and learn what life in the real world so to speak is like. After speaking with many veterans who’ve come back from the war and asking them what the Iraqis they met thought of them and what they are doing I’m more convince than ever that Iraq was in dire need of change. It was interesting hearing the perspective (conveyed through the vets I’ve talked to) of Iraqis that want change in their country yet their voices are often ignored in the interest of making the United States look bad or portraying us to be the bad guy.”

I’m not offering sympathy. Pity? Maybe…. You’ve chosen your path and I sincerely hope you come back. Perhaps you’ll ‘enjoy’ the ‘experience’ of killing people all because of a lie. Sure the Iraqis wanted change. They were being killed by their leader and his supporters. But what has changed for the better? Just as many deaths and it’s still Iraqi killing Iraqi, muslim killing Muslim. How has the situation improved? Has it improved that some 2,000 young Americans have died in the newly liberated Iraq? And is the place now safe? Does everyone have their democratic rights because of the liberation?

“As far as the other older, lie which one is that you’re referring to?”

Surely, as a potential warrior, this statement just shows your lack of understanding and education.

“At the end of the day I care little for the opinions of anyone outside my family or friend circle. What you think of me, my country, or what we are doing is of very little importance to me.”

Now is that you talking about yourself personally or are you describing American foreign policy again?

“You may hate me, despite me, or whatever else and it won’t for a second affect how I live my daily life.”

    See above once again.

“After reading that statement I really have to wonder just how much you actually do care for the people who serve your nation. In my opinion when you live in a country where you take freedom for granted (England in your case correct?), then one should never consider themselves “fortunate” not to serve in their country’s armed forces to defend their fellow citizens and their way of life.”

You really do express a particularly juvenile and immature view of both people and the world don’t you? Yes, as someone else has already told you, I am extremely fortunate not to have had to serve in my country’s Armed Forces. You think war is going to be an enjoyable learning experience. Well, trust me it isn’t. I’ve spoken to countless veterans of conflicts past and present and none of them, of any nationality, ever talks of war in the terms you do. Take freedom for granted? Let me just remind you that it was the US who turned up two years and three months late for another, earlier conflict. Take it for granted? Clearly you don’t know anything about me or the work I do or have done.

Cooper, I sincerely wish you well but if all young Americans express the same attitudes and sentiments as yourself I really do fear for the future.

    Regards,

    kev35

Does everybody here get there info about the US from the crappy movies Hollywood puts out.

Carter was at fault for not backing the Shah of Iran when religious fanatics led by Khomani took over and his followers stormed the US Embassy. Khomani thought the US would come down on Iran like a ton of bricks but Carter (who was in over his head) responded meekly. You had a autocratic monarchy that beat the crap out of its people replaced by an autocratic theocracy that beat the crap out of its people. What changed? One was pro-US and the other was anti-US.

My uncle joined the Army NG and my father married his high school sweetheart then was declared medically unfit for the draft (high blood pressure) which were all LEGAL means to be exempt from the draft. So why does the left rag on Bush about his ANG. Sure Kerry and Gore served in Nam but did they complete a full tour? Kerry may have been on a PBR but “two by four” Al Snore was in the rear with the gear I believe. They only went because it would look good on their political resumes(Gore’s dad ordered him to go). Clinton (the left’s great hero) was just a gd coward.

So some of you on this forum are concerned about the innocent victims of war. So what about the constant state of war raging in Africa? Haven’t seen any posts on this forum about Sudan, Congo, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda and so on. Any concern about those innocent victims? How about that illegal war in the Balkans? I didn’t see any complaints when NATO without UN sanction was bombing the crap out of the a soverign nation that posed no threat to the US or Europe. Now all of a sudden some of you folks are “concerned” about the innocent victims of the war in Iraq and in Lebanon. I guess the other victims just didn’t fit your agenda.

War for oil, Bush lied, chickenhawk, I’ve heard all the “talking points” that the looney left have spun. I’m beginning to think that the liberal side of the fence has a bunch of parrots perched on it.

Well Hurrifan I’m glad that you agree with me that England and France after WW1, the UN and the Carter and Clinton Adminstration have caused the Middle East mess.

Ah flex297. If my thoughts are that of Hitler, then FDR, Churchill, Truman, Curtis LeMay, “Bomber” Harris, Patton, Monty, Nimitz among other Allied leaders who embraced total war to win the war thought like Herr Hitler as well. The bombing of the German and Japanese cities. The two atomic bombs. Bringing overwhelming firepower on towns that offered any kind of fight without regard for civilian deaths. They did what they had to do to win and end a destructive war.

Would it have been better if we just contained Germany and Japan instead of crushing them completely and making sure that democratic governments took root. (Apart from East Germany)

Hey flex to you a child is an “it”? Simmer down or you’ll pop a vein in your forehead. :diablo:

Justify the needless deaths of millions from car wrecks, plane crashes, crime, starvation, on the job fatalities, child abuse, disease, drug adiction, etc. There’s a ton of needless death around the world. Where’s your so called concern for them?

Funny thing, becouse at least in here (and most likely down there as well) crishtians, mean these really religious people which truly (or at least try) obeys the crishtian values treats womens as a property as well. In fact the orginal “heaten” finnish culture treated womens truly equally. It’s evident even in our language. There is no separation of femine and maskuline words and we have only one word for she/he meaning both sexes. Argeological findings have shown evidence that we even had strong woman rulers in the times when direct blood hairs to the crown was still way in the future. So it was only the “western civilization” that brought unequality between the sexes upon us…

Tell me Suflanky, do you celebrate the international womensday? Do you know where it was invented? (A hint: look at the map where Finland lies, and then look at the country next to it in the east…)

You sound rather nationalistic. I thought we were just one big happy planet.
I don’t need a global day of recogniton to remind me that women are people too. Do you?
