they did very well and loved the DH60 display
I’d seriously dispute that. Although he came down later, for the shot in question he was well over. The wingspan of the DC 4 is 117ft, and there was no way in the world he was around half that span to the water. Additionally, they verified his height by film on the computer. As the string was set up for 60ft, they would easily tell it was only 20ft above, and he was far higher than 20ft. After seeing the footage even the pilot raised an eyebrow when seeing the water hit the tail.
But the film on the camera was judged by the string set up to measure a height at a certain distance away. as the aircraft was nearer then the distance it was supposed to be it looks bigger. if you play around with a simple camera you can get the same size difference.

I did enjoy this programme. Some great flying from the guys at Buffalo, and good to see that people still remember the great challenge the raid was.

Hi danjama,
Im doing the course in order to try and find an employer sadly, wish i had one already. i would say volunteering is a great thing to do, it gave me a little insight into how various bits of A/C worked before doing it in detail on the course. Also is great for interviews as shows your really keen to work with the Aircraft. I wish you luck in getting a place with someone 🙂
Bruce: Thanks 🙂
