Was going to say its sad to see it sitting in a puddle but seeing the shape roughly matches the aircraft i guess they cleaned it up before photographing.
I saw the photos of her being dismantled for moving recently on a DC-3 Facebook group. It is a shame as i believe she was one of the few Daks up to current Mod status for fare paying flights.
NIce little write up. The fact they seem to have only recently retired as firebombers shows how flexible the airframe design was.
I have often wondered where they ended up. Many of the other replicas have popped back up to the surface but the fact all the replicas of this design seem to be hiding is quite odd.
I think the point was more, if your brought up flying machines that exhibit bad habits then you have the advantage as will have the muscle memory to respond to these problems in a more natural way. Those brought up on modern aircraft whose traits tend to be much calmer have to think harder about how to correct issues in a problem.
Think mine are a Comet poster with several autographs of DH fame and a document discussing the Avro Arrow two engine installation.
A few interesting tips 🙂 I must admit to hating stencils after working on 146 fire bottles and having to spray the instructions on. Never went smoothly.
The lose of so many airframes would be a huge waste, the large aircraft in particular. Brunty seemed a refuge where you could run a large jet, such as the Comet. Hope they get a stay of execution.
Not the most lucky of pilots then :S
They have a very active Facebook account giving updates on the Skymaster which I have been following. The polishing looks great but i wonder if little early in the process?
I suppose it could have been “scrapped” as a flying machine and then sold on by the scrapman almost intact. Many railway trucks and carriages that were recorded as scrapped ended up in fields to be re used, maybe this happened with the Bris fit.
Well done chaps
Looks more like the doodles I used to draw in the margins at school than a viable flying machine :S
It might also have to do with position in the production line. As the Late Glyn Powells is tipped to be headed to the other Mossie group the TPM might see this as a quicker way to get the aircraft flying.
Radar bulge i believe as the Lancs did in the war
