An update – so the Canopy handle appears to be F-86 as does the other two parts with the long thin rods coming out of them. A few down, now just the panel and main beam to solve 🙂
Yes indeed thats apparently what it is (tech no) – just to make matters confusing for the noob like me, getting them mixed up with aircraft numbers:rolleyes:
Thanks for all the help !
THe number is factory stencilled, if that makes sense – I’d put a pic up but I don’t have my camera with me at the moment
Ewan’s clearing out the last of the great salvage/war surplus/disposals sheds of Melbourne, but having visited him, his own shed is becoming a bit of an Alladin’s cave too!
I can safely say that having just parked a Martin Baker Mk3B in there over the weekend, I am all out of room  Time to move house !
That would be my shed I believe 😎
Well, my grandads actually. He bought tons of stuff after the war (also train, machinery and telco stuff) but yes he had a bit of gear – hes been dead over 20 years and the place was sold etc etc so I finally got in there and cleared it out…saved this stuff from the scrapheap at least, but we did send over 16 tonnes away (rusted n busted machinery)
In relation to good homes – yes it has. I wish I’d started on it years ago but many reasons I didnt… anyway I can tell you with some confidence that probably every Boomerang in Australia now has parts from the shed, along with the Beaufort Restoration in Qld. Also a very large percentage of aircraft on display at the War Memorial in Canberra have parts from the shed.
My personal fave stuff that I’ve hung onto are parts from the CAC Woomera and also the DAP Beaufighter, of which I have a fair few bits. Looking to do a panel in the not too distant future – anyone got a spare cockpit laying around:rolleyes:
Just to clarify, the Beaufighter wheels are not from the shed, but in fact from the old Hudsons stores, which I am also clearing out, having finished the shed a few weeks ago. They also bought loads of stuff after the war, and along with the Hughes family – it was kinda like a triangle of places to go if you wanted ww2 aircraft gear.
The wheels need a bit of an overhaul but thats ok with me, I figured they may be uncommon. 🙂
If any of you are so inclined I put stuff up each week on eBay – user ID is bellarine2010. You would be suprised though – there are a number of people on eBay all selling stuff from the shed, more the dealer types (though I suppose I am one as well?)
And thanks for taking the time out to read the blog, I must get off the old backside and update it with some of the stuff I have been finding ..
Cheers
Ewan
Update to the Neptune panels – I found they came from A89-270 which was scrapped at Laverton in 1977. Would think quite a few parts from these boxes are indeed Neptune…others still yet to be ID’d
The triple brake dial looks quite nice, although one of the fixing “ears” has gone. I think I can see one of the Dunlop valves behind?
Yeah annoying that the ear is broekn, but I have a spare already that is cactus internally but intact on the outer so can use that to replace the casing. That must be the valves behind it – there is a pair with the words Brake Supply on each, and there’s a part number AH919 on the rear.
All jammed in with tractor parts no less……
