Thanks Errol ! I had no idea we were being interviewed along with the Sandbar and P61 guys. But hopefully that gives other projects some insight and ideas to work on different methods of fundraising, always happy to offer whatever advice I can 🙂
Must do some new updates this week – we are painting !
Love the pics, especially the approach shots 🙂
Thanks Mark – The fin in the container does not have the Rhino Horn section on the top as a Beaufort should do, hence the Beaufighter ID. So we probably have a bit more work to do yet – but at any rate thats down the track 🙂 For now we will get the sternframe finished and presented to the community, then start moving the next sections forward. Be nice to have it looking good soon !
Top quality work – which bit is next? Fin?
At this point the next section to tackle will be the centre fuse frame. We figure that it would be good to get all the fuse sections complete first and have a straight line to work from (if you get what I mean) We do have a couple of tailfins though, but we think the one that originally arrived with A9-13 is in fact Beaufighter, must get it out and have a look. And of course we have to paint the sternframe now, that should happen shortly but there are DC-3 and Wirraway works in the queue right now.
The other thing that we will need to do of course is paint the nose section of 150 as well after conducting a full inspection and works sheet for parts that need attention. The nose frame of 210 will be retired to storage for a while and we also need to assess how, if at all, we modify the nose of 150 to include the gun under the front.
Cheers
Sorry for the volume of updates, guess we are doing a lot of work !
After all the scrubbing and hard work done by Bradley and Ashley Briggs, the sternframe has gone into full primer, the bulkhead secured in place and we think it looks pretty fine right now ! Two replacement ribs are being fitted today towards the rear – not an easy thing as we found out, but then that should complete the main works on this section
Pictures of course 🙂

Until next update !
More than welcome. I have put an addition up on the Facebook page tonight for those that use it.(its hefty – 25 images worth) and could be a good reference point for future projects. They were done by Bradley Briggs who has knocked himself out scrubbing the deep corrosion this week. The shots are basically of corrosion points but also serve as a good set of detail shots of the interior of the sternframe

If some of you don’t use FB I may look at doing a special upload at some point. We make no bones about this project – we are more than happy to share all the detail shots etc if it’s of worth to others for research / projects etc
Cheers
Not everything that happens on Friday 13th is bad 🙂
The sternframe was finally sprayed in primer after a number of days scrubbing (yes hand scrubbing) the deeper points of corrosion out.
It’s looking awesome ! Enjoy your weekend !

And finally got the videos off the phone – just a couple of short 20 second clips, but lovely to see her back in action

After !

The tailwheel is a sorry mess 🙁 Still, the tyre has been the easiest part, I owned some new old stock ones so happily chipped in. But no words are needed for the tailwheel itself !

More to come as always – stay tuned
…and for your world-wide audience, this is actually where?

The fundraising campaign for the Sternframe section has concluded on Kickstarter.
Our target was $5,000, and the end result was beyond our biggest expectations at $6,873 or 137% of the target !
Thanks to everyone for their support, this has been incredible and well worth the effort. We all look forward to displaying the results too, I’ll keep the thread updated with pics and info as we move along the process.
Regards
Phil, I take it you mean flying P-40’s only with your tally of three left in Australia.
There are a whole lot more being restored, some possibly to airworthy, but thats a while off yet.
Left a picture off – this is the overhauled Pobjoy Cataract for the Swallow
