c) Tank is made from copper
There were remnants of a very well known DR-1 bought back as souvenirs by the troops that shot it down. Cheers

So Canada, NZ and Australia are displaying potential fakes is what you are implying here ?
I’m no expert, but pretty sure the major museums will have done their homework….
Well played Tony ! Its the rare Bunnings Special, restored to sit-worthy status by one of the volunteers 😉
Thanks for the reply Christoph
The ones in the container are in fact :
Maurice Farman
Westland Wapiti
Hawker Demon
Bristol Bulldog (very bottom part obscured)
Ones out on the ground for memory
DH9 – two types earlier and later – this is as far as we can ascertain
Cheetah (two in front of pic)
And for the life of me I cannot remember the one in the middle other than the date on the prop was around 1928
So yes it’s a tidy little collection and we hope to have them on display soon
Dummy prop, real one was on a stand nearby. Sound was from the speakers which you can see (big black boxes next to wing). well played, look forward to seeing the full progress at some point
All the best with the project. Is this the airframe that includes substantial Filton-built sections?
That would be the one. as per the history of the aircraft :
A9-13 was originally built to an RAF order of 180 aircraft and was delivered as RAF serial number T9552 in January 1942 and was one of 20 Australian Beauforts delivered to 100 Squadron RAF which operated at Richmond NSW.
good luck with your project .Are you going to feature the project on the web or just do news feeds ??.
Thanks, the project will receive regular updates on the Museum website along with the Facebook page, but I will also endeavour to put posts up when I can as well.
Thank you, well done and many good wishes for your restoration work.
Modest donation made, thanks to all RAAF Beufort crews for their service and remembering the 3 crews of 6 OTU lost in the Jervis Bay collision, 14/4/43, one of the saddest moments I ever saw in media. Did it feature in the film ‘News Front’? I saw that at a very early age and remember being very moved.
Phil
Sent an email thanking you Phil. That incident was a terrible day for 6 OTU. Not sure if it featured in News Front, certainly seen it on YT though.
One thing that we dream of at the Museum and are now working towards making it happen – to have the Beaufort and Beaufighter side by side – and the Beaufighter is already there waiting for its sibling to join it 🙂
I like the way you have set out the website. I went on with a view to looking what aircraft were in the collection. The subsections were much easier to navigate than a long list and each aircraft has an individual history and a large photo, which is what I wanted. Look forward to seeing the gallery when you add it.
Thanks for the feedback, I just wanted to make something a little simpler – we debated about whether to list the collection by age but I felt going for the alphabetical approach was better. I will be making loads of little mods as we go forward just to try and make it a simple process for everyone. I’m hanging out to do the gallery too, could be a lot of fun.
There will be dedicated tabs for each of the restorations as they happen. That way, we should all be able to follow its progress 🙂
Heard about that, I was up the country for the day so missed the excitement !
Nice one Errol, the Lincoln is in containers (!) but the Beaufighter, Mirage and Beaufort are there (there are two Beauforts, one is the cockpit section fully restored and the other is A9-13 which will be the subject of a long term project soon. The Jindivik is on loan to the Benalla Museum (as is the Macchi and Vampire) and undergoing restorations while there.
Cheers
Ewan
Should have pointed out the obvious – the new logo is a test logo – its a B17 currently but will be replaced ASAP by the mighty Beaufighter, we have had issues getting the drawing correct.
Hi Civil Aero
The Swallow is still under restoration at another facility. It slowed down a bit last year after the sudden death of one of the restorers, but it is moving along again.
Still many many things to sort out so you never know what sort of treasures are going to pop up !
Regards
Ewan
Ours is a Mk3 – the one after it A91-2 was a Mk 4 for memory.
Thanks for the support everyone 🙂 Laurence, I have put those pics of yours into the photos by others album as well, love seeing shots that show different perspectives etc.
As to the Lincoln, it’s still in storage, aside from a couple of parts visible. I have not even seen the main parts myself. There are numerous shipping containers full of parts and god knows what – probably past members – which will require a thorough audit of and then we can work out a way forward from there. Transition from one Council to another is always a busy time, and especially when the last major Council change was back in 2000 !!
We shall see I guess if the guy gets the all clear. He was good enough to send me the Tactile Survey of the wreck and surrounds and there may be hope for some sections for sure – the tyres are still inflated under the mud and the wings themselves have a large proportion in mud rather than the full salty conditions. Whatever the case I wish him all the very best and hope he has some success – he is very smart on these things and well aware of what needs to take place once raised.
There is one in Lake Victoria indeed but IIRC it is protected under indigenous laws and cannot be touched – this is due to it crashing on their land and there being at least one fatality, they don’t want the dead disturbed
