Hi Mark,
Brainfade (yet again), I really must go & lie down in a darken room!!!:p I should’ve put 72/73. Old age (& I ain’t that old, yet!), the grey matter is giving out faster than the rest of me & that’s saying something!!!
Are you going to the Get Together? The Aeroplane Mags are nicely stewing!
Cheers,
Neilly
I think what he meant, was, with the Hornet you just point it & open the throttle & it went straight. Whereas the Mosquito he has to be very careful, because of the usual swing, if you opened the throttle to fast

Hi Bruce,
I think I’ve made a mistake in understanding ‘handed’. When you refer to handed I’m now assuming it to be the way the engine turns & not as I thought, because of the different ancillaries the engines carried on them. Is this correct?
Neilly
Hi All,
You’ll also find the Mosquito had ‘handed’ Merlins, too. eg the Mosquito B IX usually had Merlin 71/72 engines. The reason the Hornet’s Merlins turned in opposite direction to counter the torque effect. A friend of mine built a large scale model of a Hornet, complete with counter rotating engines, & he said it was just like flying a single engine aircraft. A very ‘nuetral aircraft to fly. Quite unlike flying his large scale Mossie, complete with it’s swing on take off.
I have quite a good article on the Mosquitoes Merlins, if anyones interested.

Methinks it was a little more than circuit & bumps, more like circuit & crunch!:p All back together & ready for another session Saturday.

Hi All,
I hope to make it, but it’s on a ‘short’ weekend, for yours truely. I blew a few to many brownie points last week repairing model aeroplanes (slightly pranged the C 160 on a single engine landing – Ooops!). So Missus Neilly & jury are still out considering Yes or No
Fingers crossed – yes!
Cheers,
Neilly
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your comments.

Hi Snapper,
I’d swop my Friday nights with anyone – Driving a bloody ‘orrible truck up & down an equally ‘orrible M6 motorway, when ever muppet & psychotic lunatic are all doing battle for the same piece of tarmac. Yes, luvly!
Swop my usual Friday night for sitting on the pc, you bet I bloody well would!
:p
A knackered,
Neilly
Hi Ant,
Take a look at this site. Their forum is quite interesting, too. It’s seem the warbirds are constantly being updated, so they’re as realistic as possible. However, not being a player I don’t know just how good it is, but my mate in Australia rates it very highly.

Hi Ian,
Don’t waste your money! I bought it for the same reasons & to be honest, whilst there are lots of interesting photos, it’s very light on the spec & performance data.
If there’s anything specific, let me know & I’ll scan & send to you.
Cheers,
Neilly
Great pictures, what a shame all those aeroplanes went waste:( I shudder to think how much they’d be worth today, especially when you think that the airframes that did escaped the axeman, were bought for next to nothing.

Neilly
Hi Ian,
Just had a quick look through Tim Mason’s book – The Secret Years – Flight Testing at Boscombe Down, & there nothing about the sort of installations you’re interested in. However, that doesn’t mean it didn’t exist, as I found this book to be fairly brief with each aircraft type.
Cheers,
Neilly
& a few more
And some of TA 122
Hi All,
