RE: Er, admin
If you’ve got Adobe or something similar, can’t you just reduce the image size, a bit. Then save it. That’s all I do if the picture will not load up. (I’m sure someone will come up with a better reply- I ain’t that computer literate!!!).
By the way I liked the picture of the Lizzie, good piccie!
Looking forward to the piccies,
Neilly
RE: B26 query
‘Flakbait’ is on display at the Smithonian Museum, USA. Perhaps if you had a look on their web site you might find some pictures of it. A point of interest, they list it as having completed an Allied record number of sorties – 203. This is incorrect. The record is held by a Mosquito – LR 503 (there’s a picture I posted recently of the nose artwork of this Mossie), 213 operational sorties!
Have fun,
Neilly

RE: Battle of Britain
No, the CD hasn’t been released yet. It’s from the 3 part documentary that was on the TV, a short while ago. Why not have a look & let us all know.
Cheers,
Neilly
RE: Mr Modification
Hi Mr Mod!
I guess the Mossie picture is mine. The answer is no, it doesn’t bother me, as long as it’s not offensive to anyone else. As far as I’m concerned you carry on, I like a chuckle now & again!

RE: Mosquito manufacture
No, the leading edges were laminated in special presses. I have had a quick scan through the Mosquito construction manual, unfortunately I can’t find any reference to ash. I’ll keep a look out for you. I have a stack of Mosquito books, publications etc so I might turn something up.
I thought another piccie from my Mosquito files. LR 504 pictured at Bourne August 1944

Interesting Mosquito Fact:
Each Mosquito wing had 30,000 brass screws in it!

RE: Mosquito manufacture
The meterials used in the construction of the Mosquito, were:
Canadian Birch Ply (various thicknesses)
Balsa wood
Douglas Fir
Spruce
I seem to recall Ash wood mentioned, in the constrution. I think it was used in places, such as were the undercart was mounted. I’ll do some checking & let you know.

Interesting Mosquito fact:
Each wing of the Mosquito could withstand a breaking strain of 41 Tons.
RE: My favourite Mosquito
Hi Bruce,
Yes, I know all about F-bar Freddie & it’s sad end. It’s ironical that aircraft & crew went through the war & then crashed on a goodwill visit to Canada, days after the war ended. A real shame.
Cheers,
Neilly
RE: My favourite Mosquito
The motors are a couple of Mackay 45’s, turning 3 blade 22″x10″ props. I’m not keen on using 2 bladers, even though it’s usually the norm. The reason, when I see photos, of some of these beautiful large scale models, & then you see a 2 blade prop – the illusion of the real thing is broken. I just think it’s a bit of a shame!
Me & Mrs Neilly have occasional moments. I super glued, accidentally, the cover over the kitchen table! Ooops- lead ballon time!!!
No, I don’t mind a bit of modification.
Cheers,
Neilly
RE: My favourite Mosquito
When the wife’s away, Neilly extra building room! The garage is too cold, sometimes, so it’s into the kitchen, when I can!
The Mossie isn’t to bad for the ammount of area it takes up, at the moment. The wings are split & plug into the fuz. The wings rest on top of the wardrobe, at the moment, (I’m not quite sure where they’re going to reside, when the engines are ammounted, permanently). The fuz, well that’s proping up a wall in the living-room. Quite an original conversation piece. Most people have pictures & orniments, not me, I got a Mossie fuz!
Cheers for now,
Neilly

RE: My favourite Mosquito
I’ve been building this 1/5th scale for nearly 3 years! I some how feel a lawyer & a divorce court might get involved if I went for anything bigger!
At this moment in time, there are 2 wings being worked on & a whole pile of tools, wood etc in the kitchen. Another hour & it’s hover, duster & polish out, before the wife gets in from work (every other Monday I get to work on the Mossie- Mosquito Monday!). I have a picture, on the CD that I’ve keeping as a sort of building diary of my progress, I’ll cut it down in size & post it & you can see what Mrs. Neilly has to put up with!
All the best,
Neilly
RE: My favourite Mosquito
Hi Halibag,
Cheers mate, but I’ve already played that game, at the Mosquito Museum. I spent a whole afternoon photographing & measuring the cockpit. It was a cold & miserable April day, outside. I got into the cockpit with a thick winter jumper on, but within minutes I was sweating so much I had to take it off. The cockpit doesn’t half warm up quick! However, if you’d like to take some piccies that would be great.
One thing you could do for me is to pass on my best wishes to Tony. I’ve been watching his progress over the years. The last time I was up at Elvington, they’d just fitted the undercart, so I guess early 90’s was the last time I visited. I really should come more often. I don’t have much of an excuse as my In-Laws come from Hull. I think I’ll make a concerted effort to visit, soon, perhaps we might meet up.
All the very best,
Neilly

RE: ‘Night Flight’-The Verdict
When they made Memphis Belle they also used some large radio controlled models, too.

RE: ‘Night Flight’-The Verdict
That was bloody quick, Lancman!!
I enjoyed the programme, storyline was a bit convoluted, though. I thought the action was fairly good & it was good to see & hear the Lanc. For me 8 out of 10.
