Oh so the SP has the Hanger I know it parks on the disused rwy can it fit inside it then?
James
you’ve obviously never seen the ex-basco’s hanger then…….747 easy A380 getting abit tight
yep ok just had secondary confirmation BAM is moving as are DeHavillands, BAM not sure where DH to 603 while a purpose built hanger is built for them
They’re there to fetch, carry, lift and wash your car DHE 🙂
The day I meet a pilot who does even 1 of the 3 will be THE day:diablo:
unfortunately this had to happen eventually, although the French generally have had a very liberal view of E.U. rules and regs in the past and let pink lady fly on her old insurance for some time it has now come to the point that they cann’t turn a blind eye any longer when there has been such a fuss kicked up, quite rightly, over this issue. They are now having to back pedal in order to save face and appear to be acting as part of the EU
XH558 😉
I could tell you – but it would be censored!
Lets just say its an ‘affectionate’ term for a new pilot trainee 😉
Aaahhh…so i can expect to see new faces around hanger 7! Break my bird and die boys!!!:diablo:
FUG?????
Move possibly, close I very much doubt it! That i’m aware (information current circa march 2007) BAM’s hanger was to be the only hanger remaining on the terminal side of the airport. Chan-ex, flying schools, NATS, and the existing car park were to go to make way for the new terminal building and associated car parks. BAM as I understand have/had a very good relationship with the airport management and in turn the management were highly sympathetic and supportive of BAM as a tenant because of their reputation as a live aircraft museum. Barring a major falling out I cann’t see that this will have changed.
One thing though, could reheat have been fitted to derivations of the Sea Vixen? Its surprising how close the tail booms are to the jet efflux, would have thought afterburners could cause heat damage to the airframe in that area, and possibly the tail plane in some manouvres.
DeHavEng, is XP924 staying on the ground now? It looks lovely in its 899Sqn scheme.
it’s very doubtful that the Sea vixen in her current form could ever have been fitted with re-heat. The jet eflux would have had serious effects on the twin booms and more importantly her slab tail. If a Sea Vixen derivative were to be fitted with re-heat it would have involved a complete re-design to a more conventional layout. DH/HSA were planning a sapphire version as I understand with auxillary intakes above and below the main intake much like the elephant ears on the souped up Venom, a tight squeeze but a profitable one, most likely making her supersonic even with out re-heat given the additional thrust and the fact that now with all her RN fit removed XP924 is supersonic. the additional thrust should compensate for the additional weight.
As far as I am aware XP924 is grounded until such time as either sponsership and/or insurance can be found. She is maintained in airworthy trim and conducts fast taxi’s to keep the systems ticking over but until the money is ponied up she is a flightless bird. For further information I suggest a visit of dehav’s website, where you can find dates and times of any prospective runs and flights of Dehav’s fleet including my little baby the scarlet scooter (aka Gant XR537)
is it me or does the Bristol 188 look remarkably similar to a certain American design we all know and love? Could this be another case of American strong-arming of the UK Aerospace industry?
One can only speculate just what would have happened had the Sea Vixen gone to war in anger.

Alot of dead airmen…..on the opposite side. She still is a world beater even after 50 years, her only weakness being the lack of a gun(s), a feature that in my humblest of opinions could have easily been addressed. As Phixer quite rightly pointed out I am rather biased, but by god, De Havillands made some beautiful and fierce aircraft. Although I’m no longer with De Havilland XP924 will always occupy a very special place in my heart, and it’s truely heart breaking to see her on the ground after all the hard work that went into getting her in the air in the first place. For me seeing Brian take her out with those characteristic smoke trails looking for all the world like a huge bat is a sight I’ll not soon forget
….on the nose of this Skyways DC-3 ?

Many thanks in anticipation.

if you mean the thing just under the nose it looks to be a ‘boat’ vhf aerial. Although quite why they put it there I don’t know.
And for those of you who doubt the sea vixen’s potency, she can still hold her own against the most modern aircraft in the RAF inventory (5-1 I think it was) and she is most definitly supersonic at her optimum operating altititude. not bad for a 1940’s design retired 30 years ago as being out of date.
Sea Vixen weapons inventory: (the official RN list as I remember it or what i can remember)
Red Top
Fire Streak
SNEB
Napalm
Iron Bombs
Recon Pod
Drop Tank(s)
Special Weapon (Nuke[still classified])
Bull Pup
Rockets
Additionally it was proposed for sea vixen to carry sky flash before they were withdrawn. The list I quote from occupies 6 pages of double sided A4
😀 nice one guys that’s a feat and a half….just how many strings did you pull for that one:diablo:
Thank you Scorpion. must have been another of Coventrys classics jets.
a trip to Specsavers i guess.:D
Might possibly have been Vampire G-HELV…..just a teeny weenie bit smaller than WK163 but she’s the only jet out of coventry that I know has flown in the past few days
