Had no idea he was still with us until this week. RIP
Looking at Mark12’s post recovery picture further up the page, definitely looks like a DG/DE over Night scheme, unless there was a white scheme applied over the top which has since worn off? Come to think of it I’m sure I’ve seen a shot of one of the inner wing sections (unrestored) which is very definitely black…
One would hope that once they’ve shifted the Wellington, then it should be all hands to the Hampden pump. I’m holding out for another decade. Question is, which will be done first? This or the FAAM Barracuda?
Is that the ex-Airbase Rapide up for auction last month?
With replacement of the missing nose section with a genuine RAAF cockpit sesction, to make a “long-nosed” Mk. 31 I believe.

Now THAT was a Vulcan take-off! Wish I’d been around to see the first display career, when by all accounts the aircraft was flown a bit more vigorously! Still, I count myself lucky to have seen it fly at all!
Hooray! 🙂
I can hardly think of a better outcome 🙂
I’d just be happy to see the Hawker Fury fly, to be honest. Missed it due to the weather at FL this year, and was deeply disappointed that it wasn’t considered for the Battle of Britain show. Never mind Duxford anyway, I want to see it at Old Warden.
Since people asked, here are a few of mine. I’ve only just taken them off my camera so apologies for the rough-round-the-edges nature of some of them!
That’s my ugly mug with R4118…

Must admit I thought it was some kind of Piper Cub derivative!

(By the way, I don’t think I’m the huge bloke in question…but if so, my apologies!)
Double post, oops…
Too bad no one saved a Comet 1. That would be a good way to remind people when the UK built an “Empire of the Clouds”.
Not really in a state to be flown, but saved nonetheless…

Wot no Shuttleworth Uncovered? Really enjoyed yesterday’s event!
Looks an intriguing schedule though 🙂
Ah! This is the story I saw reading the Times over somebody’s shoulder earlier! Looks promising, it’s coming from the Great Fen Project and so will presumably be rather deep in anoxic peat. Made me think of that Spitfire in Northern Ireland, also dragged from peat, from which the Brownings took very little effort to make them serviceable.
