The noise was just something else. I was standing in front of Airspace and the echoes back off the massive building felt like the best surround-sound in the world.
Love the decals!
Many thanks for the heads-up DCW, all booked up!
Very professional bit of incident handling there, and probably the gentlest landing I’ve ever seen the Vulcan perform. Good on them! If the gear had collapsed, that extra few yards of high-alpha wheeling down the runway (and consequent lower speed) might have made all the difference for the crew.
Larger types include a B-29 and (now sadly rare) C-124.
A bit of Googling shows the C-124 to be in OK external condition, I hope it goes inside! Always had a soft spot for that monster.
I’m always amazed to see crash engines or guns etc being restored to working condition – but this is something else. A serious pat on the back will be in order when this Merlin roars into life!
Sounds impressive. Are there much in the way of historic aircraft already preserved in S. Korea?
There was a one-legged Pied Wagtail living in my secondary school, which (much as at DX, I’m sure) did very nicely thank you off dropped crisps, biscuit crumbs etc.
Can we get Ringo Starr to narrate for the BBC when they pull it out?
Love it!
Come to think of it, isn’t there an Awdry story where one of the engines gets bricked up in a tunnel and forgotten about, only to emerge some time later feeling rather disgruntled?
That egg looks good enough to eat! Great work guys, look like you got some good runs in despite the nasty weather. Tornado looks superb too!
Hear hear, that brightened up my morning somewhat. I agree that it would look terrific “around the bend” at OW.
Well, RAFM Hurricane P2617 wore the scheme “AF-T” with a pale spinner around this time (before repaint into its current scheme) so that would fit…

Been away, for the weekend, what an awful thing to come back to. Condolences to everyone involved, especially those who were injured, lost their lives, or had this happen to a loved one. Fatal accidents are horrible enough, but accidents where large numbers of innocent bystanders are involved seem like another level of awful.
Those on this thread who have said that a period of reflection and soul searching is called for are absolutely right, whatever happened to that aircraft in those awful few seconds. Whatever the cause, the fact is that 20 or so people were killed despite being nothing to do with the airshow. This alone should give us all, cause for thought about the risks and benefits of the historic aviation that we know and love.
I hope that people won’t consider it inappropriate if I post a picture of WV372 in happier times.
/ / Post of the month.
Made me chuckle even more than the thread title, which is saying something.
