Nice shots! I assume that the B.E.2 was there for quite a while (or came back to Duxford twice), as the shot in the superhangar must be mid-late 80’s, surely? (if nothing else, the Vulcan wasn’t delivered until ’82!)
That’s a superb video, and a fitting tribute to your wonderful work. Long may it continue!
No, quite correect. I believe it’s because IWM Lambeth is being re-developed on a fairly major scale.
Duxford’s Vulcan arrived and landed safely on exactly the same length of runway that they have now, not shorter. If its deemed not good enough for another Vulcan then i can only assume thats based on condition, not length!

I thought that XJ824 (like the Victor and B-52) arrived before the shortening of the runway which was a consequence of building the M11?
Nice machine! Do we yet know which variant this is? Looking at the photos, I realise I’m not enough of a ‘109 expert to tell…
Quite, and it’s worth stopping for a moment to remember just what the UK airworthy preservation movement does already have from the post-war era. Hunters, Vampires, Venom, Sea Vixen, Sea Hawk, Jet Provosts, Gnats, Canberra PR9 nearly ready… all flying in the airshow circuit!
Perhaps it’s time we stopped hungering after more and appreciate/ support what we’ve got…?
We really are priviledged to know you Tim, no matter how remotely. How often do we meet people with quite such amazing experiences?
Worth it? Of course. There are plenty of us too young to have seen one first time around…
It’s a shame that this fine thread doesn’t get many positive comments, but I’d just like to pitch in and thank Howard for keeping us so well-informed. Like the Duxford Diary it’s a great way of keeping in touch with the goings on the museum for those of us who are a bit far away to drop in regularly. Bravo, and keep it up!
Thirded. Only my second Shuttleworth visit, and this time it really did live up to the visions I had of a glorious evening with rotary engined types pottering round the circuit in soft golden light! Really nice mix of types too, and after Flying Legeds the commentary was like a breath of fresh air.
Difficult… it could be a Blenheim V, but equally I couldn’t rule out a JU88. Do you know for sure that the a/c was hostile?

She looks in excellent condition, and it’s great to see this important aeroplane getting a nice warm indoor space!

I’m very glad to finally see the stunning result of MAPS’s labours. Well done all and what a super aeroplane! 😀
