We are having a few days around lowestoft. Is there one day better than another for the flying?
which are the better places to view the flying from? We have never been to lowestoft before. We have led sheltered lives.
    Thanks in advance

    Sundays Legends

I am adding my half crowns worth.

Wind Breaks – Er in case you hardy lot hadn’t noticed IT WAS WINDY ON SUNDAY.
Most wind breaks are only as high as the fencing anyway.
Ladders at the front are far far worse.

Remember the early bird gets the best view.

The corporate marquees etc must help offset the costs, and subsidise the entry fee.

Who pays for the police the extra fire cover etc etc? We passed a fire engine on the A505 which we later saw at Legends who paid for that?

Any way enough of this. I go to airshows to get away from this cotton wool, rule ridden PC society.

I positioned my TENT on the bank by the tank display area.
I like this spot , you dont see all the taxiing aircraft but you do get the Spifires and the Mustangs screaming over you heads.

You feel you could touch the fusalages. I know they not over my head but it just feels great.

Within seconds of the first Spitfires taking off I felt the entrance fee was worth it.
Where else would I be able to be this close to a Spitfire at full bore. And not just one but 9? (over my head).

Actually I would not mind the Spifires and Mustangs repeating this about half way through the show but having read on a previous post they use 2 gallons a minute I now know why they don’t.

Finally I liked the Frenchman’s commentary, it added an air of gallic romanticism.

THANK YOU each and everyone from Stephen Gray to the cadets who usher us in and clear up afterward we have gone.

What are the problems/chances of a tail chase/dog fight high enough to recreate the vapour trails as seen on old newsreel films using the prop riven classics?

Are u talking about Les Chevalier du Ciel?

I have looked this up on google and on there they talk about a modern movie.
I am sure it was a series and I am talking before colour tv.
Perhaps it is the same story but revised and updated and remade as a movie. I shall have to investigate further.
    Thanks for the lead.

and do any of you remember a french series following two pilots with french mirage f1 jets? It must have been on BBC in the days of Black & white TV. Probable on asat or sunay early evening spot.

As posted by Mark12 I come under “the best stay out of the discussion then”, group but I am going to have my say anyway.
When you know how something goes or is or should look, it is very annoying to see things wrong but passed of as something correct. Best example in top gun when they call an F5 a mig, it just completed the unbelief in the story.
If I knew that such n such was never combined with so n so then it would really jar. Now this spit even though its a plastic spit should be depicted as near as humanly possible to be consistant with what it is representing. Young Johnny may well be doing a school project and copy this as accurately as he can and he would be quite right to argue that he copied this at the imperial war museum so he would assume it to be accurate. If this is near the gate he might not even go in the museum and see all the other schemes anyway. If this is on display at Blackpool pleasure beach then fair enough its an advert and plastic so the colours would not matter. But being at a museum I agree it is wrong not to have got it as authentically accurate as possible.

Keeping planes flying if that entails advertiser corporate colours eg Red Bull Sea Vixen or owners own colours ie Miss Demeanour then I will accept that as the price for seeing it fly.
I love the Miss Demeanour colour scheme.
Its gone midnight. Got to go. The magic may wear off.
    Please exscuse spelling.

dont want to spoil your fun, well yes I do really because you ladder brigade have spoilt my photos loads of times!
I just had to say it. With some people it’s speeding cars, or dog dirt on pavements, with me its ladders at airshows. I know your one of the thoughtfull ones who always place your ladders towards the back of the crowd line.

“collapsable ladder” does sound a contradiction.

In an ideal world there would be two of each areoplane preserved under cover. One up north & one down south. (or together in a darkened hanger then perhaps they would breed like in Noahs Ark) sorry. As I see it for aircraft preservation you need money first then dedication.Without either it wont happen. Its no good ringing your hands its a fact of life. Unless other forum members know of situations where the will was not there but politics was.
It has been my experience that people involved with aircraft love them and, if there had been a realistic way to preserve these aircraft they would have done so. Or am I being truly nieve?
    excuse spelling.

    Re mildenhall

I have miss Mildenhall Air Fate. I been thinking this week I wish it could be brought back.
RIAT is too big, with so little time. A day was not enough. I would not spend the cash or spare the time for more than one visit. Perhaps I am a bit mean on both counts? Although one year I did go to Riat twice. I had bought tickets and my wife won a pair of tickets as well.
But I always came away from RIAT frustrated as I could never get around all the static or chat to the crews without missing the flying. I missed the Liberater because we got talking to some Tornado crew – not that they are less than a Liberator of course, and I looked up and there was the Lib performing what seemed like about 2 miles away to far to get a decent photo anyway.
Mildenhall was priced £5:00? a car. Absolutely the best value. Yes I am mean. I used to enjoy talking to the crews & soaking up the american atmosphere. Never fancied a burger though. At the ‘hall you were pretty sure of seeing several display teams, but I remember you had to go on the Saturday to see the French as they would depart on the Sunday for a national display in their own country.
Also you would usually have a similar variety of aircraft but admitedly not the quantity as RIAT without the long queues (nor the exhorbitant prices).
If an American Aircraft carrier was near (within 1000 miles ha ha.) You may be lucky and see a selection of Navy aircraft including F14s etc.
As others have said I believe the continued lack of Mildenhall is because of commitmetts more than the terrorist threat. Anyway if it is because of terrorists then the terrorists have won have they not?
I miss Fighter Meet and of course The Great Warbirds Displays as well. You could argue that Legends covers this but they each had there own atmosphere. Plus fighter meet had pyrotechnics!
Any way I had better finish if there is anyone still reading?
Will this missive get edited by the moderator?
All my pics are on film and I have still to scan them onto a disc. In fact I am still using film. I still call the radio the wireless too.
