I dunno about you, UKAVIATOR but regarding to the ‘hatches and harness secure’ bit, I was taught to do all that downwind – Brakes – off, undercarriage – down, Mixture – Rich, Fuel – On and sufficient, Carb heat – checked, hatches and harness – secure.
Its worked for me for the past 8yrs and was taught to me by a few different instructors.

You lucky thing, I never seem to get chances like that. Maybe because I never find the time to hang around airfields any more.

Was that aimed at me? 🙂 If so, its because I have my licence and a friend of mine was doing a photography flight with the chipmunk and pitts special. So I flew my friends plane and he took the pics 🙂 We then circled around a virgin hotair balloon near the cardington hangars and took pics enroute back home. 🙂

I did some formation flying with that Chipmunk (and a pitts special) last year (I was in a beech musketeer)
