Hampden98, I feel exactly the same and agree with everything you put in your first post on here and i’m only 28!
I feel that people have lost a sense of fun and rather than being happy and comfortable they tend to want to have more. It’s like when you see school kids with blackberries.
I started training for my PPL 9yrs ago and I threw everything I had in to that, so I never did the typical young person thing of going out, drinking etc I just flew and studied. I enjoyed every minute of it but when the economy turned bad jobs became so hard to find that the amount of hours I flew was so few and far between that 2yrs ago I accepted the dream of flying airliners for living won’t happen for me and I had lost enthusiasm to go that far (as you say, everything has become way too competitive) So I opted for my second choice (PCSO or Police Constable) At the moment i’m studying a criminology level 3 diploma to help with my future application for when there is an intake (I was meant to have an assessment for a PCSO job a few weeks ago but sadly had to cancel due to personal circumstances) The PCSO job with Thames Valley Police pays about £19,000 per year while PC’s earn from around £22,000 to about £31,000. Considering the possible dangers of the job the wages are not incredibly high (compared to my previous ambition of an airline pilot) but I honestly don’t care for the money, I want to join the police because it’s something I will enjoy and being part of the community is something that I will get something out of. The point i’m trying to make really is that I would rather be happy in a job rather than just doing it for the money and nowadays I think alot of people go the overworked and stressed out life route – they spend all hours of the day working hard for promotions, pay increases and end up on ‘extra courses’ or ‘team building’ exersizes and I think all this drags down peoples quality of life, it’s harder to find a partner nowadays as everyone is too career orientated, it must be harder to bring up a family too. Also companies seem to go through restructuring every couple of years, abit like the yo-yo coming in to fashion, then going out, then coming back in again. Of course the ‘restructuring’ means redundancies. I think that kind of thing needs to stop unless it’s really necessary and I also think that people shouldn’t be made to feel that they should have to work so much to the extent that they are bringing it home with them just to keep ahead of any competition that might also be in the running for promotion or a raise. Nowadays depression seems to be something alot of people suffer with and I think it’s because there is a huge lack of ‘me time’ and ‘family time’
As for drivers, I completely agree. When I was driving in fog the other day I was coming round a roundabout, driving to the road conditions, and two cars decide to pull out infront of me – why? When I was in the car with my mum a few weeks ago we were again at a roundabout waiting, traffic was coming round so we couldn’t pull out, the guy behind started using his horn, so I looked back, put my hand up and said ‘WAIT’! Only then did he give a rather embarressed smile and waved apologetically. As I always say, those idiots might wanna die sometime soon, I don’t. For some reason everyone just wants to rush everywhere, manners are disappearing both on the road and also in person too.
