Thats sad, Jim. I bet it must have been difficult.
I think something I could have done differently would have been when my grandad (he was my father figure as I grew up living with him) was in hospital. I visited him alot during his time there but then the nurses said that kids were no longer allowed to visit (I was 11 at the time) and that they had to wait in the day room. Their reason was that kids often bring in things like colds etc. Anyway, as grandad seemed to be making good progress I decided that rather than going to the hospital each evening from then on i’d wait at home until they either lifted the childs ban or my grandad came home. 2 nights later at 1am my family got a call to say that he had taken a turn for the worse and they should go and see him. So they did (although I was asleep at home so my dad came round to lookafter me) and he died a few hours later early in the morning on May 9th 1996. If I could have done things differently, I would have gone there on those last 2 days because I would have still been able to say hello and bye each time, but would have had to spend the rest of the time in the day room, which in all fairness, seems like it would have been worth it now.
