Interesting photo! Where did you get it?

Found it in some Chinese Forums and websites, such as this 1:

    http://www.wforum.com/specials/articles/04/17662.html

Doubt its authentication for a moment but after I found somebody also posted the picture in CDF then I decided to post the photo here.

    So, any comment, gents?

Joint R&D center—Chinese aviation company signs cooperation agreement with Airbus

    http://english.people.com.cn/200506/15/eng20050615_190368.html

The China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC I) signed an industrial cooperation agreement with the European aircraft maker Airbus on Tuesday.

AVIC I and Airbus decided to establish a joint R&D center to conduct design work for the Airbus A350 program, according to the agreement signed at the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget in northern Paris. The center will be opened later this year in Beijing.

The two aircraft makers have a cooperation history of more than 20 years, in which AVIC I mainly undertakes sub-contract projects from Airbus.

The European aircraft maker has pledged to raise the value of projects conducted by AVIC I to 60 million US dollars per year by 2007 and 120 million dollars per year by 2010.

Five Chinese companies are already suppliers of Airbus, namely the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, Xi’an Aircraft Company, Hong Yuan Aviation Forging and Casting Company and Guizhou Aviation Industrial Group.

The European Aeronautic Defense and Space company (EADS) owns 80 percent of the stake of Airbus, which is based in Toulouse, southern France. British BEA System holds the remaining 20 percent.

As no surprise, Now US accuses China has stolen the Aegis battle management technology according to today’s edition of the Washington Times :

    Title: Analysts missed Chinese buildup

Among the failures highlighted in the study are:
•China’s development of a new long-range cruise missile.
•The deployment of a new warship equipped with a stolen Chinese version of the U.S. Aegis battle management technology.
•Deployment of a new attack submarine known as the Yuan class that was missed by U.S. intelligence until photos of the submarine appeared on the Internet.
•Development of precision-guided munitions, including new air-to-ground missiles and new, more accurate warheads.
•China’s development of surface-to-surface missiles for targeting U.S. aircraft carrier battle groups.

Chinese Mines Pose Taiwan Blockade Threat

Exercises to rapidly deploy or preposition U.S. minesweepers to Taiwan could deter such activity.

Came across an article from this famous Mr Richard D Fisher
    http://www.strategycenter.net/research/pubID.63/pub_detail.asp#

his description of the APAR radar on type052C is:

Ukrainian Kvant Naval Active Phased Array Radar

The Kvant Bureau of Ukraine disclosed some new details regarding its new active phased array long-range naval radar. In early 2004 reports from the Ukraine noted that China had purchased a Ukrainian phased array radar for a new class of destroyers. This presumably is the new 170-class destroyer, the PLA Navy’s most modern air-defense destroyer. While first revealing this radar in France in 2004, Kvant officials at IDEX did not disclose the designation for the new radar, but did provide a photo and some performance details. It is a C-Band radar that has a 150-160km range in broad search mode. In spot mode the radar has a much longer range. It can track about 150 aircraft-size targets. For proper ship defense this centimeter-wave radar should be paired with counter-stealth capable meter-wave radar. China’s 170-class destroyer does just this.

The Patriot AN/MPQ-53 Radar also works on C-band, so now I realize the Radar on type052C may be enough to do the fire-controlling job of the SAM as well provided Mr Richard D Fisher’s info is correct.

    OMG! made a grave mistake here… :p

    I mistook SPY-2 as AN/SPG-62

    SpY-2 doesn’t exist, Emmm… i supposed to mean SPG-62 fire-control radar which works in I/J-Band …

Anyway, sometimes memory just faded 😮

But don’t forget the Type 052C radar’s T/R unit works in low frequence S-band. the same as Aegis’s SPY-1. the radar works in this bandwidth is JUST not suitable for fire-controlling. The same reason, the SPY-1 can’t do SPY-2’s job. Even the next generation “Dual-band “radar on DD(X) consists SPY-3 APAR works on X-band and a S-band Volume Search Radar. It’s the SPY-3 that will absorb previous SPY-2’s fire-control job, not the S-band Volume Search Radar.

BTW, MPQ-53/HT-233 etc, none of them works in S-band

The lastest issue of Kanwa Defense Review confirmed the 4-array Aegis SPY-1 Type Radar installed on PLAN 052C is a very powerful Active Phased Array Radar( APAR), of which Kanwa says is a milestone of the world marine industry.

The same claim(052C radar is APAR) already long appeared @ Huitong’s website:

    http://mil.jschina.com.cn/huitong/luhai_luhu_luda.htm

While the APAR installed in the F124 works on X-band, the 052C’s Radar is believed still works on the S-band ( Considering China’s current technology level), which indicates the HQ-9 SAM still needs separated fire-control radar. The boiling question is, where’r these Fire-control radars? at least I can’t find them from the photos of Type 052C available online.

Then, if there’r really some fire-control radars similar to SPY-2 installed on Type052C, it also shows the HQ-9 may not be an Active radar guided SAM as previous speculated.

Pakistan has asked Malaysia to import the JF-Thunder aircraft. “Pakistan is making the aircraft with China’s cooperation,” the prime minister told a gathering of overseas Pakistanis on Friday.

Will malaysia buy this aircraft? Let’s wait and look…
