Hi Cees
Thanks for the info. I think that I got the idea that it was dressed as a MKIII from something that I remembered wrongly from stuff posted early in the restoration. How I missed the lack of a dorsal turret i don’t know. Looking so intently at so many pictures can at times make the mind go a bit ga ga. Working out all the panels and rivet lines for the wing surfaces is one case in point. The surface should I be able to pull it off will look ace.

Hi
Hi
Have you seen this site. Found it while looking here on an urban exploration forum.

Covers in high res the bits standard google earth doesn’t.
Helped me to see that the old building that as teenagers we rummaged around for brand new boxed aircraft instruments and other spares is still there. The place was stacked to the roof up to 1979/80 for certain. Unfortunately google standards high def coverage ended about 200 yards from it so I was pleased to find flash earth. Always meant to take a trip back there just to see if anything is still there

Hi
Hi
Once again Turretboy comes to the rescue. fantastic pics. Nice to see that some of the bits inside that I guessed at turned out right, but not all. The shots of the header box and internal canopy framing are really useful. Do you mind if I repost them on the reference pages. I know I am biased but I still can’t think of any recent project to match it.
Thanks again
Phil
Hi
It seems that the more one looks at any item in the Halifax you begin to see all the changes from manufacture to fitting out in its career. The bomb aimer’s couch/seat for example. At least 3 different types.
1/ A basic mat
2/ A collapsible seat as shown in the AP above with some type of upholstery
( both of the above seem usual for bomber versions)
3/ Another pattern of collapsible seat minus upholstery in parachute glider types. A bomb aimer’s seat/mat no longer being required. The observation panel is also plated over on NA337 at least.
I am modelling a bomber and am going with number 2. Already made it in fact. Torn now between brown fabric and black leather. I think that it should probably be a dirty khaki brown but cracked and worn black leather looks good.
Thanks for all the great pictures guys

Hi
Hi Cees
Do you have any ideas for the colour of the bomb aimers seat/couch. Black leather or Khaki canvas.

Hi
Hi
try contacting After the battle magazine. They have done some very in depth articles on this subject. Also I am no conspiracy theorist but the whole Hess case is a can of worms.
Hess WAS shot with a high power service rifle at fairly close range during WW1 but the body of Hess? when autopsied showed no scaring, entry or exit wound! The consultant surgeon to the British army and world authority on gunshot wounds also found this somewhat strange. Begs the question that if it wasn’t Hess then why would the stand in not spill the beans.
I won’t even start on how a man so frail manages to hang himself in a horizontal possition or that all his possesions were put into the summer house and burned before anyone could study the scene. Hardly normal practice!
As I said before I belive most conspiracy theories are rubbish but there are many strange twists in the Hess case. Personally I would have hung him (assuming of course it was him) and many many more who brought such evil to the world. Far too many got off.

Hi
The only interior bits I still need are the top escape hatches interior and exterior if poss. Thanks to the wonderfull pictures from the likes of Turretboy, British Cannuk and others I have been able to sit and stare for hours on end. Great idea on making the interior available by video.
I myself have endevored to take longer building a model than you did the real thing 😮
I am very very lazy though 🙂

Hi
Hi
Great work on the Halifax. One question will there be any pics available of the interior when finished. I hope it will not be like YAM’s example were no pics of the interior have been forthcoming for many years. Some vets have been allowed inside but I have seen no pics posted anywhere. Good luck with the Anson and if its anything like the Halifax it will be a cracker.
