I dont think those values are accurate, I remember reading the same table from a book/article some time ago. The link i posted is from a powerpoint presentation so they might just aswell be there to show how off those estimations are. Who knows  πŸ™‚

But the interesting part is after that anyway when they do their own estimations.

For a test program you want stable and proven engines, that’s kind of the whole point. Therefore I’m pretty confident that the kaveri will not be chosen, as it it pretty much how far away from stable and proven as you can get.

Cool down abit. Ofcourse rafale will carry meteor, anyone stating anything different is just ridicilous. That said, it’s hard to find simething negative about having a two-way link already? Thats equally ridicilous.

France proposed a collaboration about the KC-390, something that has been only slightly touch here.

Well, I the reason it only has been slightly touched is because Sweden offered the same. Aswell as replacing the current trainers with super tucano’s.

My personal opinion is that the next three year will be decisive for the future of SAAB on the fighter market. They have a good product offering a good performance/price compromise but lack the political clout to make the difference in the end. That is why I am not so optimistic. The anecdotic good press release may act like a smoke screen for some but they should take a birds eye view of the situation instead of doing this perpetual pissing contest. Competition is already hard with two competitors in Brazil and Switzerland imagine with five in India…Especially on a political standpoint.

If you really want to asses a situation without rounding in circles in sterile specs debate you really should take a bird eye view and take into account all factors.

Agreed, with all gripens delivered to the swedish airforce, saab will have to get some export contracts going if they want to stay in the fighter business

That’s quite “vague”. What if Thales did 95% of the validation process while Selex is only at 10% ?

True, but the difference will lies with the software if I must believe the articles I read in french magazines.

Who knows? Both have been working on fighter AESA demonstrators for atleast 15 years (or 20 even perhaps?) and have both have been flying and testing algorithms with a Raytheon antenna aswell as in software simulators.

The point is it is kinda silly to claim Thales are 4 years a head of SAAB/Selex when this blantantly simply is not the case.

Like it or not , being able to build an AESA technology demonstrator in 2010 is not really an achievement … πŸ˜‰

RBE2 is not futher along the way than Selex radar, both are in the software validaiton phase. The difference is Selex is & has for years been selling fighter aesa radars, whereas thales have not.
To my knowlede both of them use T/R modules designed by UMS by the way.

But the answer is not zero. Saab SHARC, Saab FILUR, and don’t forget Sweden’s contribution to the nEUROn programme.

More design studies include SAAB Getoga, SAAB Skuadern, SAAB Glanden and stealth fighter projects P305 and P306. Whatever SAAB knows about stealth, it is incomparably more than our local forum zero and that is exactly the point I am making.

Ever use a mirror to flash sunlight around?

Whats the RCS disadvantage compared to horizontal aft-tail?

He was decrying conventional fighters for having horizontal tail surfaces, yet ignoring the Eurocard’s horizontal nose surfaces (canards). Yes, I know canards are smaller.

Ok, then I’m with you, fair enough

I also like how you conveniently left out the RCS disadvantages of a canard on both of those deltawings.

What is the disadvantage with canards from an RCS point of view?

first choice was in-house SiGe T/R modules which would offer (well, on paper) modules ~70% cheaper than other alteranatives.

SELEX and Thales modules are both of the same geneartion, but the SELEX offer was considered superior because of the swashplate solution.

Elta’s antenna was considred technial inferior (legacy “brick style” T/R modules).

No, it was selected because Thales simply dropped out because of Dassault pressure. Thales was the prefered partner all along.

The preffered choice was an own designed atenna with SiGe T/R modules but it was deemed to risky to be completed in time for the ongoing procurements.

Selex and SAAB have a close relationship and share for instance the M-AESA R&D project.

Sensorfusion is one of gripens strongpoints, so…i would not put all my money on that horse…

Rafale has more sensors to fuse though.
