Pakistan had a few examples that defected from Afghanistan and Eritrea captured one from Ethiopia. Apart from that everything else is misreported (Nepal wanted some but did not have the money)

It is Egyptian photographed during some of those Bright Star exercises If I rememeber correctly. I also do not think there is a green star in the flag, the whole picture is just full of digital artefacts. Add to that that sometimes the eagle is outlined in black and you get something one yould take for a green star.

Nope. It’s nothing but a mirrored image of a previous drawing with some PhotoShopped landing gear put in front of a desk background.

Could just as well be the other way around.

I think it’s real, the camo seems to be non standard two-color and corresponds to the one worn by Syrian museum birds. The Syrians overfly Damascus every year doing some kind of air parade, Perhaps they were photographed during this occasion. Really an awesome find.

A better quality photo of the Mi-24 (my first own contribution to this thread :D)

I will upload a picture the other one, soon.

Well the risk is really high but slow-flying is the way to go when fighting COIN wars. Perhaps some dedicated COIN drones would be a better solution, perhaps one could even cheaply adapt the Air Tractor.

By the way it is weird, for the first time after Vietnam the West’s troops face the very real possibility of loosing a major war (against an enemy much more dangerous than the Viet Cong) and unlike Colombia we still we do not have a dedicated aircraft for this task. I guess you can simply make less money than with “real fighter jets”

Also all aviation enthusiasts are obsessed with questions like F-35 vs PAK-FA when both aircraft probably will never meet, at least not in quantities. Speaking of importance this thread should probably have 40 pages+

Perhaps not the rarest air force but an amazing picture. A heavily beatun up Serbian MiG-21 in flight.

The RAF and NATO might be out of Iraw and afghanistan before the first Sqn. would be ready for battle. And then, what are they good for. The next conflict might have advanced enemy fighters and SAMs and a real threat from air defence systems, which would make those fighting crop dusters sitting ducks.

One must not forget that America has lots of allies fighting against organizations labelled terrorists which need dedicated COIN aircraft (for example the Phillippines, Thailand or Indonesia).

It’s not an Alouette III, but…

Sorry to disappoint you, but it’s the presidential helicopter of Cameroon (see the colors of the stripes which match the flag)

G’day all, first post so please be gentle! 😉

Got a Google hit on this (small, sorry!) pic on Probert Encyclopedia, just said “MiG-19” but looking at the camo, tail marking and nose serial I think it’s an elusive Ugandan Farmer, what do you guys think?

It has underwing pylons so it is almost sure it is a Shenyang F-6. Looking at it I think it is a Pakistani one and the roundel on the fin is just one of their abundant squadron badges (the hard edged camo fit ist too)

You have lots of choices, you just prefer the easy one even if it does mean putting your neck on the chopping block.

Ok please tell me another source of vast gas supplies we can get within the next year? You clearly do not have the slightest idea of the dimensions we are talking about. There are other pipeline projects with other ex-Soviet states like Azerbaijan but those projects take ages.

I guess you did not understand, we are not ok with it we simply have no other choice than to have at least decent relations.

We have to acknowledge reality, we are extremely dependent on Russia and its energy. We can never be real friends with someone like Putin but one just has to find a modus vivendi. For US citizens it is easy to rant about Europeans because you are not in our situation.

Would you as US **** of all the gulf states at once? No you wouldn’t.

Who is going to be the next Churchill if it goes down that way.

    Sarah Palin

    LOL 😀 good one
actually the very same people giving baseless Chamberlain comparisons today would call Roosevelt a communist destroying the US.

Let’s face it. You have a project costing billions of dollars. It pisses off a major nation whose trust and help you need, the population of the countries in question doesn’t like it either. The whole defence can be done by mobile systems just as well.

    What do you do?

Yes exactly, you continue just to keep face and if somebody disagrees, you bring up spectacularly stupid Hitler/Chamberlain comparisons.
