For some reason I love this small, short-lived Air Force. I have pics of all planes it operated (Bell-47G, C-47, DHC-2, Jet Provost) with except for french-made M.H.1521 Broussard. Can anyone provide me with photo of this plane in SAAF marking?
Heres a link to site with plenty of shots of SAAF Jet Provost http://www.swordsaviation.co.uk/gallery.htm
and here is a history of that particular plane http://www.jetprovostheaven.com/jpt4/g-prov.html
…coolest roundel of the world, isnt it?:Dbtw, does anyone produce Jet Provost in 1:48 or 1:32?
Aeroclub does one in 1:48, it is short-run but injection moulded. Not an easy build for sure but with your enthusiasm you’ll master it 😀
BTW was the SAAF engaged in combat actions somewhen?
Though they are great planes Pucaras and A-10s are already quite old. They should rather consider some new aircraft like the Super Tucano so that they have a secured spare parts supply for the next decades.
The T-34-85 was NOT used by the Ustashe regime. It was Yugoslav Army Stock (WWII/post WWII vintage) captured by Croatian forces at the beginning of the war for independence and subsequently used operationally by Croatian Army.
That’s why I said Croatian T-34s OR Ustasha armor 😎
Do you have more pics of Croatian T-34s or armor that was used by the Ustasha regime in WW2?
In fact, Kazakhstan was my first thought, but AFAIK they don’t have Su-25’s. Unless it’s a picture from the days when they still had some (???).
Where did you find that picture? At the same page as the Georgian one?
Very strange, because according to Dassault, they were selling Mirage F1 to Libya at the time they started building Mirage 50, having completed delivery of all the Mirage 5s Libya ordered, & never sold any Mirage 50 to Libya. And all the Mirage 50s they have a record of selling are accounted for.
Of course, it’s possible to update a Mirage 5 to the same standard as a Mirage 50, & I believe Chile did so. Or maybe someone told you something which wasn’t quite true.
BTW, when was this? Which year?
Personally I don’t trust any dogma regarding African aviation anymore. Just one year ago it was a widely aknowledged fact that Libya doesn’t operate Mi-23MLs, that no Zimbabwean Hawks are flyable, that Ethiopia never received Mig-23MLs and that Nigeria only operated Mig-21MFs. And actually all these “facts” proved to be wrong.
I wonder why Lybia has not opted for Su 30 , Mig 29 SMT or Su 35 instead since they already operate a lot of Migs (21, 23, 25)
Well supposedly they were much more content with their Mirages than with their Migs and Sus. Wasn’t there a picture of a Libyan pilot testing the Rafale at the LAVEX site?
The Viet Cong had its own air force towards 1975, flying captured A-37 Dragonflys. Sorry about the quality.
Thanks for that picture Canpark! What aircraft and how many did the VietCong operate? Was this a real independent air arm or rather VPAF planes with a new insignia painted on?
This was a very peculiar and unpopular move. Khat is apparently a mildly stimulant leaf which is chewed – probably not a good thing when it comes to dental hygene, but hardly equivilent to a hard drug addiction. Khat chewing is something of a universal obsession in Somalia, as well as Yemen.
The policy seems even more peculiar when you consider that there was no historical, cultural or religious justification for the khat ban?
It’s a bit like coca in latin America isn’t it? I’m no expert on Islam but as far as I know the koran prohibits the drinking of “intoxicating liquids”, which is justification enough for islamists to prohibit all kinds of drugs.
Interestingly there was a guy at youtube (living in Mogadishu) who uploaded several videos glorifying the Islamists underlined with jihad music and one day before “government” troops entered Mogadishu he deleted all of them 😀
The airstrikes on the airports may be to deter various countrys sending in aircraft such as IL-76s loaded with arms and that KHAT stuff.
Khat was prohibited by the ICU
I think Western countries really have to deal with that crisis, especially since it’s not only a problem of Darfur anymore but an enormous crisis for whole of Africa (civil wars in Chad CAR). But a establishing a no flight zone with F-4s against Mig-29C could be a real problem. Perhaps the Swedes can help out with some Gripens???
I don’t like Chavez either yet you are right about discussing politics on this forum. (even when its hard not to) On the otherhand what news do you listen to? Yet, how is it any less bias than FOX? Regardless, know need to reply as I am not looking for a political debate and/or a flame war………..just an observation.:p
Common sense tells that they would go for inter-service commonality. Nobody wants a flying zoo these days.
Well politics are not always logical just look at Malaysia with their Mig-29s, F-18 and Su-30s
They already have Mi-35Ms.
Yes, but they belong to the army and the airforce is probably going to get some attack choppers too.
