Angolan Mi-24
Strangely nobody has noticed my post, that Venezuela wants the Yak-141 reactivated, which in my opinion is quite some news. That makes one really wonder whether people actually visit this forum to discuss aviation or rather to start senseless flame wars…. ๐ก
To make things even more weird Venezuela seems to be interested in the Yak-141!!!!! ๐ฎ There’s a thread about it at the fav-club forum. This Chรกvez guy almost reminds me of Perรณn and his Pulquis.
Not to turn this into any kind of flame war, the term ‘democratically elected’ does not really apply to Chavez – he held an election, but made clear to the opposition that he would unleash a ‘bloodbath’ if he lost. Chavez raised a mass militia in order to secure his control over Venezuela, so whatever your opinion of him, he most certainly is not democratically elected!
We should really try to keep politics out of this thread, it’s senceless anyway. Most of us live thousands of miles away from Venezuela and the international media is just way too polarised to get a real opinion  . Let’s rather turn to some of those interesting questions:
Will F-16s be repainted in the new scheme?
Is Chรกvez going to buy Su-39 or Su-25K?
What anti-ship missiles did the Venezuelan air force buy?
What will be the replacement of the F-16? (the Su-30 isn’t, Chavez has mentioned it himself )
Is the AMV going to buy Ka-50s Mi-28s or Mi-35s?
I really like that subdued-grey camo scheme. Fits the FLANKER very well I think, certainly more attractive than, say, the PLAAF’s Su-27SK scheme. Reminds me of Indonesia’s FLANKER paintjob.
Say what you want about Chavez/motivations/politics/etc, but any serious enthusiast should be excited at the prospect of new photos of brand new FLANKERs flying around in a foreign air arm. The major plus side to Venezuela buying FLANKERs is that we’ll be able to see a good deal of images I believe, given that they aren’t scarcely used or hard to find like Ethiopian or Angolan birds. Chavez, dude, forget Russia…talk to Beijing about some J-10s so we can get a serious (uncensored) look at that one next!
I agree though some Su-39s, Ka-50s, Mi-28s or Su-35s would be cool too ๐
Austria did evaluate the Mig-29. During the reign of our former Chancellor Schrรถder (a personal fiend of Putin) it surely would have been possible for Germany to buy Russian aircraft. According to some sources the German secret service even provided intelligence to Russian forces in Chechnya. Now it’s quite unlikely, though I would love to see some Su-34 replacing our Tornados. ๐
“Gorilla Warfare”
๐ Pretty funny…but there are no Gorillas in that region……..only in Africa.
Cheers
wouldn’t be so sure about this one …. ๐
BTW if Brazil does order the Su-35 how long would it take to deliver them? AFAIK Venezuela was interested in them, too but decided to go for the Su-30MK2 because it was more readily available.
Why would you screw with the French??? Remember last time an air force screwed with them??? They destroyed the entire air force in a SF raid. Im all for it, open up on the Isrealis. Give them a rude awakeing that arent playing with third world powers and technology…
Look what they did to the Germans last month… seriously, what are they thinking???

They also intercepted and hassled a German navy helicopter. Not really a nice behavior considering the fact that German and French soldiers are actually risking their lives to protect Israeli civilians ๐
You are a bit mistaken here, Fabe. Note the DRC in Curahee’s post which means The Democratic Republic of the Congo, or Congo-Kinshasa (known as Zaire from 1971 to 1997).
I know it’s the same country but there’s still a considerable diffference. The DRC is a sovereign nation, Zaire was the private property of Mobutu Sese Seko (and subsequently Zaire’s air force too). Both also used different roundels so I think you should distinguish between the two. Just like the GDR air-force wasn’t the same as the Third Reich Luftwaffe.
Sorry guys, this is the image!! ๐ก
Same camo job. same source, different year….but is it an example that never reached the Congo, and pressed back into serb service??????
That looks like some mock pre WWII Yugoslav markings to me. Anyway the camo is different, the Zairean MiGs seemed to have used the same camo as Jastrebs and Galebs (only very faded in the pics).
Curahee do you know whether the MiGs wore the Zairean roundel? Gbadolite was the home town and the last refuge of Mobutu so it is quite likely that they were used in combat. Interestingly the runway of Gabdolite was extended sometimes in the 70s or 80s to enable Mobutu and his family to charter the Concorde for shopping-trips ๐
Great going Banshee and all those of you keeping an eye open for updating this thread !! ๐
While I’ve been away for a while. Now I can see that You all worked a great deal of outstanding finds all alone to keep this unique thread alive. I find them all very useful and interesting.
While going actively through the net in search of something special, I was not only able to pick up a couple of images of two MiG-21PFMs in Congo DRC AF inventory, but also a wide variety of A/Cs and helicopters placed in active service within numerous countries in all over the globe.
What follows is a rather supprising to you since almost nothing has been brought to the light to date in terms of photographic evidence.
Interestingly, All of which appears to have its engine covering missing. making it rather difficult to identify the unique roundel of its own which is usually supposed to be carried on the side of it, is sighted dumped on the hardstand of Gbadolite Airfield which lies in the distant interior of the Congo DRC.
According to much detailed infos concerning this available in the open literature, Only four of which were given to Congo DRC as a part of serbian effort to significantly improve then-president Kabila’s Air assets during his tenure of presidency.
I hope you’ll like them all and to see more comming sooner,
I hoped for high-res pics of these two Mig-21s for two years now!!! ๐ฎ ๐ ๐
Thanks really much for those pics!!! Where did you get them from?
I have however a small correction they’re not from the Congolese airforce but from the Zairean airforce, which purchased them in 1997 from Serbia.
Remember, the UK had a Secretary of State for Defence who thought you loaded mortar shells pointy end down…..you don’t need to be a ballistics genius to work out the pointy end of a projectile is the end that is fired out of the gun/launcher
We currently have a minister of defence who thought that Gabun and the Democratic Republic of Congo share a common frontier while sending troops to both countries, he was also completely unaware of the fact that there are two Congos. ๐
Ugandan L-29
That scheme looks remarkably similar to Bukina Faso. Is this machine actually Nigerian, are has it been recieved from elsewhere?
Actually that one is not from Burkina Faso but Guinea Bissau. The camo seems to be some kind of standard African Mi-21bis camouflage. Similar shemes were apllied to the Migs of Congo Brazzaville and Mozambique.
Hi guys, another dull Sunday here in Prague, CZ, but another great find on net !
This time it is Nigerian MiG-21MF from Abuja – Nnamdi Azikiwe International, courtesy of Airliners.net again …Regards Jakub
Good work Jakub!!!! ๐ฎ Actually it’s a Mig-21bis which makes your find even more spectacular as Nigeria was only known to have operated Mig-21MFs so far.
