Tango posted a link that Japan rejected the US proposals for their next gen fighter. Now it seems more likely Japan will either cooperate with the French/German or UK proposals.

Btw, they have sorf of come full circle:
    N-156, T-38, F-5A, F-5E, F-17, F-18A, F-18E, T-X

had hey chosen the Northrop T-X, that would have made more sense

Mat Sabu: Only four out of RMAF’s 28 Russian fighter jets can fly

you’d figure after their MiG-29 issues, they’d learn better from buying Russian, but here they are again not with one but two types that are mostly grounded.
should have gone French if they didn’t want to deal with the Americans. (yeah I know its not the best option given what happened to Egypt and their Rafales, but at least it will be flying)

    Capability aside,

why do both the British and the French/German designs look so awful.

I don’t know how anyone can believe that the very clear picture Deino provided is even connected to that transport aircraft in the picture.. which is quite blurry.

That pic of an Adir over Teheran looks fake to me.

The picture clearly says its a montage

I am pretty sure Turkey can field a YAK-141 based VTOL

ok so who will pay for its development? Russia probably won’t, they’re interested in the Su-57K, unless Turkey pays most of reviving a Yak-141.
Also why would you want to go from a 5th gen aircraft to a 4th gen?

And do you really want to leave the US-NATO alliance for Russia? Sure, it means Incirlik might be gone.. but it also means it makes it much easier for NATO to side with Greece during a dispute. Also supporting the Kurds.

Russia?.. they support Syria, your enemy.

    an honest question.

the general discourse is that the Typhoon is more oriented towards air superiority while the F-35 is more oriented towards strike.
but how does the F-35 fare for European air forces wanting to meet NATO commitments for air superiority?

^ on the subject of F-16 modification,
I wonder why they didn’t simply adopt the F-16XL variant since they aimed for more or less the same thing (an extended F-16 with more range and greater emphasis on air to surface missions)

Yes. All those other airplanes have either been retired or in the process of being replaced. the F-15 will soldier on for some time.

Granted, I don’t think their F-15s is as well suited for maritime strike as some of the other choices, but I believe Japan already had dedicated maritime strikers.
F-14 and the Tornado probably would have been more expensive to operate

    AI.

The consideration of Japan is important and something many may miss, so good on you for bringing it up. the US-Indian-Japan triangle is rising in importance with Japan trying to push its US-2 sale

Although the F-2 is unlikely, perhaps that UK/JP 5th gen project would be of interest. Especially as I am not that confident HAL can build the AMCA alone.
