I just wonder, though, if the aircraft had experienced some issues in flight with the Hydraulics, why the thing wasn’t being towed once it had landed safely and prior to being checked out.

Wasn’t it an issue with the Hydraulics that caused that Alaskan Mad Dog to divebomb Santa Monica Bay?

Geneva has a lot of bizjets, though, the sort you’re unlikely to see at BHX or GLA (I mean along the lines of the Saudi Royal Family 747SP).

As for ZuReich, I think they got the byline correct, it certainly is unique, just not in the way they meant…

787-3 has absolutely no competitor from airbus. extra seats versus range seems to be something boeing believes in a lot.

yeah, that’s why they say there’s no market for the A380, and airlines would rather have 777ERs, to have smaller aircraft on more frequent routes.

Personally, I still can’t see how that fits in with lack of slots, certainly in Europe.

James, if you read the report, it does say the outbound flight was full (147 maximum bre- I mean pax), and aprox. 2/3 full inbound.

Tech Probs can happen on any airline. Or would you rather it hadn’t turned back, and run the risk of the problem developing into something bigger?

I liked San Fran when I was there 9 years ago this month. Found it a lot more comfortable temperature wise than NY where I stopped off for a couple of days on the way back. So while Elgan might not have enjoyed it, personally I’d reccomend it.

erm, Boston was on the original list?

And surely if nwa were considering it, it’d be to MSP, to tie in with their domestic connectors?

JFK I don’t think is likely, it dosen’t have a huge range of domestic destinations, and with CO operating 10 times weekly to EWR which does, I can’t see the immediate Market.

DSA’s only been a commercial airport for just over a year.

    from the DSA website:-

Robin Hood airport started life as an RAF base (RAF Finningley) in 1936, and played an integral role during the First World War and the Cold War as a command base for bombers on the front line, and a training centre for pilots and navigators.

The 2891 metre long runway (one of the longest runways in the north of England) was resurfaced in 1989, and the airport retained its military use until 1995 when it was declared surplus to requirements by the Ministry of Defence, leading to the airport flag being lowered in 1996.

When many in the area thought that this was it for the airport, Peel Holdings PLC (who also own Liverpool John Lennon, Durham Tees Valley and Sheffield airports) bought the site in 1999, with a plan to turn it into a commercial airport.

The first commercial flight left the site in April 2005, and 1.3million passengers are projected for its opening year, including freight, long-haul, charter, scheduled, and business flights.

It is expected that passenger numbers will increase when the commercial airport is more established.

no, just what’s going to the Hold. it then goes down the conveyor belt as if you’d checked in at the desk, without keeping everyone behind you waiting as you show your passport, they go through the computer to find your reservation, ask the security questions, print the boarding pass and luggage tags. it’s really just a case of dropping the bag off, leaving you free to clear through security faster (although depending how many self service kiosks there are, you may have to queue to access them, though).

Having said that, not all self service machines provide luggage tags, some airlines you still need to get them printed out at the bagage drop, although you just have to show your Boarding pass rather than go through the whole rummage-in-your-bag-for-your-ticket charade.

With BA, for example, I haven’t even had to swipe my credit card through, just putting my Exec Club card through the reader has brought up my booking details (provided, obviously, you gave them your Exec Club number when you made the booking, or subsequently added it online)

The Bag Drop is effectively a check-in desk, but it’s just the conveyor Belt, with a Staff member present to check everything is correctly labelled when dropped off.
