Two possible new FR routes from EDI are showing in the BAA timetable.
Pisa (3 x weekly) – starting 15 April
Bremen (2 x weekly) – starting 30 March
Nothing on sale on the Ryanair wesbite as yet, though.
Nice photos, Jamie. If that SAS 736 is the inbound aircraft which sat on the taxiway for a little while before pulling up to the gate then I was onboard 🙂
Yes, I agree that the city-break destinations do seem to be problematic for Globespan, however I’m sure that if they committed to a bigger advertising spend on the continent then these routes would attract the two-way traffic they will need in order to be viable. Ryanair and easyJet know that the business doesn’t just come, and that you have to get out there and push your product. This is where I think Globespan has fallen short in the past, but hopefully they will address this for the future.
Yes, I think you’re right about Venice, and it was possibly two or three years ago, however I think Globespan could give it a better shot this time as they are much more widely known in Scotland than they were even a couple of years ago, and they also have more aircraft at their disposal now. Jet2 has identified Italy as an up and coming market for Scotland, so hopefully Globespan will follow suit.
I echo T5. That 757 shot is excellent. Nice work, Robert.
Flyglobespan really should stick to Scotland. So far their short haul ventures south of the border have not been a roaring success.
I’d love to see them start new routes such as EDI-VCE and EDI-MUC. I know the Spanish resorts are Flyglobespan’s strongest market but I’m sure if they put their backs into it they could make a success of more city-break destinations from Scotland.
Globespan Holidays services from Birmingham, Exeter, Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow and Gatwick will also be changing to be either operated by GSM or Zoom aircraft next summer
Is Edinburgh included in that? YYZ-EDI is currently operated by Air Transat, but could GSM be planning to take over the route themselves with a 757 next summer?
Still waiting on GLA-DUB with FR. Glasgow International must be the only major airport in the UK with no Ryanair flights.
Heathrow? 😉
Some UK routes I would like to see:
Liverpool-Gatwick (EZY)
Aberdeen-Stansted (FR)
Carlisle-London City (Scotair?)
Edinburgh-Bournemouth (EZY)
Some overdue routes from Edinburgh:
EDI-MUC (LH or BD) – BD supposedly still hold slots for this.
EDI-OSL (SAS Braathens?)
EDI-ZRH (Swiss?) – high time this one came back.
EDI-MXP (Ideally Alitalia, but perhaps a future route for EZY)
EDI-MAD (IB or BA Connect – a glaring gap in EDI’s route network)
From EDI (my local!) I would like to see:
A lo-co route to Berlin (Air Berlin, easyJet or Germanwings)
Some sort of replacement for BD’s dropped EDI-Munich. Maybe LH?
Iberia to Madrid – at least 2 x daily service
Malev to Budapest
Alitalia to Milan
An Oslo route – either Sterling or SAS
Emirates to Dubai
United Airlines to Washington DC
I could see the logic in retaining EDI-STN (only one competitor on the route) but I think GSM would still be better switching the GLA flights to LGW if they can get hold of the slots. Only BA to compete with on this route, after all.
