    RE: British Airways Tails

That B777 with the Hong Kong scheme was actually one of the first Herpa models I owned at it’s still one of my favourites. I’ve seen that the Scotland scheme is out now and I’ll go get it, too.

I’m sorry to see the tails disappearing and all the planes going back to a bland white body with no real own identity the way British Midland or Air2000 have.

Many people say that the service on Lufthansa is just great, but I too found that it wasn’t. There seems to be a great difference between long-haul and short-haul or domestic flights.

What I really like about them is that they are mostly very punctual and that the safety standard is quite high. I don’t always like the self-image they are promoting, kind of that it is a honor to be flying Lufthansa. They also have a charter service called Condor which is, as far as I know, a whole subsidiary of Lufthansa. I’ve heard that their service is even worse on short flights. I don’t know but I can recommend Hapag-Lloyd who have very modern machines (B737-800) and a good service.

When flying SunExpress which is owned by Lufthansa and Turkish Airways I decided never to do so again. The plane was ok, but the service awful. We flew right through a thunderstorm and I got sick. The stewardesses found it beneath them to take the bag away to I had to sit there with the smell for more than an hour. It was a wonder I wasn’t sick again or any of my seat neighbours. Maybe it was just bad luck but it didn’t give me a very good impression of their service.

I’ve never lost baggage yet and I don’t travel long-haul either – but even when it comes to travelling short-haul I’ve chosen Britsh Airways over Lufthansa for many years now although Lufthansa is actually a bit cheaper. But travelling Lufthansa always makes me feel a part of the baggage myself. It really can’t be nice for the crew to travel to and fro all day long but somehow stewardesses on BA flights are still friendly and smiling even at the end of a long day.

There’s something else that I like on BA flights. If you bring your own headphones you can listen to the board program. You don’t have to buy headphones that won’t fit anywhere else.

I was really sorry when British Airways suspended the service last year. I’ll have to go Lufthansa now but I think it’s actually a code-share flight on a British Midlands B737.
