Don’t know why you all are going back and forth about the MiG-29.

Both it and the legacy F/A-18 can nose point well at low speeds but neither has the controlability of the F-35 at high alpha, that’s what separates it from the older fighters and is most important to the pilots.

Whew, haven’t posted in years but have been lurking this thread. Despite what people on here and otherwise seem to think, LM is pretty good when comes to FCS and aero design. All this talk about it being a flying brick reminds me of those idiotic threads 10 years ago about the F-22 not being able to do a Cobra and getting shot down in dogfights by Super Flankers with plasma stealth. The F-35 isn’t perfect but it looks like it can get out of its own way. That pedal turn was pretty damn impressive for a non-TVC fighter.

Should be very comparable to the 4/4.5 gen fighters in the kinematics aspect which is undoubtedly the weakest part of the package.

It is funny to say 2D nozzle is steathly, if it is then why F-35 isn’t retenggular nozzle?
If you learn some stealth tech you would know that 2D area of cenction of nozzle is larger than 3D nozzle.

Money. Time. And the fact that the F-35 was never meant to meet the same RCS requirements as the F-22.

I’m pretty sure 8 missiles will do just fine for almost any mission these planes are going to be involved in.

    You can see it

LMAO. Have you ever seen an F-22 in real life? You can’t see them.

That’s a biiiiig boy right there. Good looking too. While I don’t see it being as good as the F-22 all-around, it will be more than enough to give the USAF some competition. And that’s not a bad thing.

    whaaat ,no kulbit ,no supercobra?
    pathetic…..

from what i seen the f-22 induces its vortices off the forebody (the engine intakes), and its not providing the same strength as an equivalent LERX.
its limited because of stealth and vertical flight surfaces dont exist for such manuevers…

    Bwahahaha….

You can’t really analyze the F-22’s wings from a picture. They are all over the place in every picture I’ve seen it in.

Watch when the Raptor does the pedal turns or the slow speed AoA passes. It looks like every surface is going in an opposite direction. 😀

I’ve keep telling you guys this since long time ago and i guess you’ll have to see it to believe it. Recall the F22. What did I say? Body chins and strakes for vortex generation was designed to provide in effect a multi-segmented vortex lift, very different from the likes of the earlier F16/18 and Su/Mig. Since the vortex lift is very non-linear and destabilizing it can be used (if designed correectly) to advantage for control in all 6 axis. For example, the yaw control of the F22 at high AoA yet the TVC provides no, if minimal, yaw control. Humm…interesting isn’t it. I recall some here question how that is done when the traditional tail fins couldn’t really provide all the necessary control forces when compared to other aircraft. There’s one very interesting picture available out there….almost the entire upper surface of the F22 is covered by LEVs. I mean from nose to the trailing edge of the wing body…that’s the hint. Now look at the general front fuselage shape of the F35 and you’ll see that it’s almost identical to the F22 in design philosophy, don’t let all that LO stuff mislead you to think that that’s its all for.

This man knows what he’s talking about. I remember him talking about the same stuff before the Raptor demos started up and many still couldn’t believe that the Raptor was aerodynamically superior or even on par with the Flanker/Fulcrum family.

We now know that the Raptor is a good amount ahead of either. I wouldn’t doubt that the F-35 will be at least as good as a Viper or Hornet in terms of accleration and manueverability. All we can do is wait…

“Dozer” says the F-22 can launch AMRAAM’s from almost any part of envelope that they use in BVR engagements. Upside down, turning, whatever.

Just as a correction the Raptor’s wing area is 840. If you’ve ever seen it in person, the wings and tailplanes look gigantic when next to an F-16.

Watching the video made me wonder: What happened to our old friend Firebar?

Here an interesting quote from the pilot:

Question:Max, What is your rate of descent during the power loop before you can completely level off in stable flight?

Answer: “I hit over -10,000 feet per minute for a while before I recover. Pretty amazing that the jet can be sinking that fast at 2500′ and be level by 1900′!!!!!”

The pitch authority of the Raptor is incredible. He pulls back on the stick at 90 knots and plane responds like other fighters would at 300. It’s ability to yaw at very low speeds without 3D TVC is amazing too.

The Raptor never looks out of control in any of its maneuvers.

The problem may be ‘fixed’ but that does not mean that many here have heard about it as a search turned up nothing before I posted.

I typed in “Raptor canopy” and the thread came right up.
