I think Bob Johnson was escorted a distance in a razor-back P47 by a FW190, while both were out of ammo and Bob was a flying sieve – I’m sure an artist did a painting of it . . .

Isnt it a disgrace that tracing the crash site and the recovery of the crew’s remains will prob be down to private individuals rather than the UK government?

The current and previous Governments should hang their heads in shame !

Hear Hear. The States spend millions of dollars and man hours to paid professionals to search the world for the remains of their missing soldiers, sailors and airmen.

I swear, if I ever win that elusive lottery, I will be off like a long dog offering my services to anyone who can locate any and all remains of young lads still trapped in the mangled wreckage of their machines. Alternatively, I would (probably at the request of Next-of-Kin) mark the spot with a suitable memorial, preserving and identifying forever the memory and last resting place of a brave young lad.

It was an uncredited original print in the late Robert Rudhall’s collection that is now lodged with the British Film Institute Library in London to honour Robert.

..and yes, although there were plenty of red nosed Buchons lurking at Duxford in the summer of 1968, it does seem that they were used on the strafing scene but may have ended on the editor’s floor.
