The Halifax is coming to life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    😀

Having the day off really helps.

Couldn’t wait and fitted the throttle box trunk to the engine control duct and fitted the throttle box on that. So the whole unit is almost ready apart from some top hat section stringer bits that need to be fitted for strenght. At this speed I will have to make a sturdier base to place the whole unit on otherwise its too heavy.

    Cheers

    Cees

My interest in cockpits is growing since first seeing this thread, if a project was to be started is it best to start and construct the thing ground up or get something to renevate? but then where would you get your hands on something – wouldnt be cheap!

    any pointers welcome 🙂

Ever had one of those days?

Thanks to Neil for mucking in today!
And thanks to Steve for letting me drive his Jeep! I got to get me one of those….

Today, not much happened! The lightning paint strip continues apace thanks to Dave and Roy – She should be ready for painting fairly soon! A few panels will have to be fabricated, but nothing major is wrong with her – except the fin work.

The Vulcan Canopy has been sealed thanks to Mr. Silicone, and hopefully, that should stop the rainfall inside the cockpit! The crew access ladder has been removed for painting this week. Tomorrow, the Main u/c leg doors are coming off to preserve whats left of them. Hopefully, we should have a new set coming to us.

The Bofors gun now traverses merrily, and the barrel elevates. All thats left is alot of paint, and later, an investigation of the hydraulics. Every movement is manual for now…

Aside from that, nothing happened! Just one of those frustrating days….

I had a good day on sunday, but i found the lazy group first 😀 but finished of the day with the lightening bunch! 🙂

apparently the covers for the cables on the side of the fuselage need replacing on the lightening aswell has abit on the Fin.

will be good to get the lightening painted and perhaps the sea venom touched up and brought out too, the museum did a good job to get that sorted in the first place.

This one went into the English Channel, so i would have to get my diving kit on for this one! 🙂

Im currently researching the pilot Vincent Parker who after been captured by a german E boat would end up in colditz to return to Britain and die in a training accident in Northumberland.

without getting a copy of the orb i was wondering if anyone knew the aircraft code.

    😀

Well AZ was 234 Sqn and AZ-H was Serial N3277

This is a well known Spitfire captured by Germans.

    15th August 1940

1815hrs: Cherbourg. Spitfire N3277. 234 Squadron Middle Wallop
P/O Richard Hardy Taken prisoner. (Forced landed on beach after combat over Channel off Swanage)

This Spitfire was later tested at Rechlin

Apologies for the hijack of this thread

I dont suppose anyone knows the serial number for spitfire R6985 234 Sqn lost also 15th Aug 1940 by Vincent Parker?

would anyone have a copy of the sqn orb for that day?

    cheers

that is a pain with the main hanger doors………but good idea about the trees that could stop them taking pot shots but they do seem able to get in over the fence anyway.

anything light could hang up in the air clearing some floor space is what i was thinking.

maybe some type of blocks to raise front or rear ends in the air to give different angles to the planes. abit like at car dealerships but then youve got added stress to the airframe and landing gear tho but just a thought.

I work in print so maybe could do some new full colour displays boards for aircraft or for wall displays etc.

I had also thought about having display areas around the main hall on the wall by putting up some painted wooden display boards with info on.

or i had thought about painting the walls in colour up to 6 foot just to help it not being so gloomy inside and help bounce some light around.

    just ideas 😀 🙂

Good starting point to make one hanger a working workshop for projects!

The main hanger I dont think was the place for it.

A pity the lightening is going outside I would have liked to see that dolled up and inside with the sabre!!!!!!! That would be a sight!

If any vandals touch that lightening…………………….. 😡

if you were staying on that site, would it be possible to hang something from the roof in the main hanger??????
