A good possibility something will be happening on the Stuka front this year, which will see another ‘survivor’ appear.
Any more details on thsi one……. ?
Apparently the Lacey stuka is going to be another 3-4 years but it is planned to fly. There are one or two HE111/ CASA 2111 projects around, but the size of the bird is always an issue, as is the cost. I’d like to see a He111, Me109 Fw190 formation…..
I also believe that there is just not the interest in getting the larger German planes back in sky. What would your private operator rather have; a Spit/ P51, or a German bomber of some sort. The Spit is cheaper, more popular, easier to aquire spares for, and ultimately…. cheaper!
Sorry, HE111
No Stuka….. what about seeing an ME 111 in the skys again?
Hi J.V.
I’m surprised that there hasn’t been more interest in this one, considering the nature of the aircraft and regardless of how effective it was – it looked lethal!
I understand that potential projects have been uncovered in Russia, but nothing more has been heard. The prospect of seeing a Stuka is not something everyone gets excited about, but it would certainly make an interesting addition to any airshow listing.
Not a spitfire though… eh!
I understand the economics behind controlling the supply of aircraft/ projects on the market, in order to maintain the market price of a Spitfire….. but why the secrecy?
Thanks for the reply go4b17.
I’ll keep an eye out for any interesting bits that I might find and post the pictures/ location. I’m also spending 3 months in India later this year – I’m hoping to find something… maybe a Hurricane that needs some TLC around the back of a university!!! Could it happen again……
I will be in Bolivia in June for a month with plenty of spare time. I understand most/ all of the B17s have now been/ are being restored to WWII config. Are any airframes still in Bolivia, or is there anywhere I should make a special point of visiting?
Cheers
Just back from a place called Hondarribia on the Northen France/ Spain border. This was the location used for all the French port sequences – all the barges going past on the back of trucks, etc. Nice area and the local people i spoke to all remembered the filming taking place in the late 60’s – they called the film the Perpinon or something of that nature.
Not worth a specific trip but if your round the corner anyway……
There is also a number of aircraft on ‘display’ in Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs) – I didn’t take photos as the place is quite a depressing site. For reference, there are also a number of jets (Migs) on concrete stands between Maria la Gorda and Pinar del Rio.
It is possible the P51s have been keep in good condition – the Cubans take great pride in their ability to maintain anything, regardless of the lack of suitable supplies. However – due to their US heritage, have been kept hiden. Further, the Santiago area is difficult to access – poor roads and no road signs.
First Post
Excellent pictures – real shame that we’d rather smashing things up, rather than think ahead to the future.
I will soon be spending 3 months in India soon – can anyone recommend anywhere in that part of the world that may be a good place to spend a day sifting through some bits?
Cheers
