45m = 147.6′
120m = 393.7′
cheers ,thats Deep’ but not too Deep.
I found this image in my 1993 Mildenhall air fete programme recently, so most likely crown copyright.
A great photo, showing a PR9, PR7 (?) and Tornado GR1A.
I know 13 Sqn disbanded as a Canberra unit around 1981 and did not stand up again until 1990 with the Tornado, so clearly these Canberra’s must be on the strength of 100 & 39 sqn’s and have assumed 13 sqn badges just for this image?
If anyone can add to this, I would be interested to know more, especially if there are any more pics out there.
well It Looks like pre 80’sh too me.I have some 1970’s mags pics with 1968 /69/ 72 planes in them.

45M sinking to 120M approx maximums, but obviously there are major variations. Google Earth may give you some idea of the topography – (I cannot access it here at work!)

In the spirit of fair play and having watched all the programmes in the series I would say that the company surveys all wreck sites. They do carry out archaeology and have helped solve missing ship submarine puzzles.They have a respect for those who lost lives at sea.
To say other wise is to ignore the docimentary of them at work.
fairplay’ as to subs any ENGLISH ones.
terry
Well why dont you ask them, only a few clicks away,

Not that one, the one in Portsmouth Docks, the first HMS Victory which sank in 1744. It was found earlier in the year by Odyssey Marine Exploration after a thorough search of the English Channel.
We had an earlier thread, which I cannot find now, about this search and the hopes that maybe some aircraft wrecks could be located. If they have been found, I cannot find any mention of them in any of the news reports.
Unfortunately, considering the damage that trawlers have caused the historic shipwrecks that are in the Channel, it is less than likely that an aircraft would survive such treatment.
Another point is that as Odyssey are basically ‘treasure hunters’ the value of any aircraft located would be very minimal, even if noteworthy, like Glen Miller’s plane.

As too aircraft lost at seas I wonder if Helmut wicks plane would be Located too or John Dundas.

Are you interested in a particular sector or the sea or the whole of the Irish Sea?
There were a lot of aircraft recorded as having ditched or gone missing in the area though the Station Operations Record Book for Valley did not record any accidental shoot downs.
They often reported an unidentified aircraft which were intercepted by the resident Hurricane / Spitfire / Beaufighter (depending on which squadron was present) and reported as a friendly. These tended to be Whitleys and Wellingtons from OTUs.
The only confirmed case I have is this one from the No.312 Squadron Operations Record Book, at the time they were based at Speke.
October 13th 1940, “1800 A most regrettable incident has occurred, a Blenheim fighter being shot down into the sea in flames in mistake for an E/A. The pilots concerned were S/Ldr Ambrus, F/Lt Comerford and Sgt Stehlik. An unfortunate chain of circumstances led the three pilots to believe that two machines they had sighted while on patrol over Point of Aire were E/A. S/Ldr Ambrus opened fire on one of them and was followed by F/Lt Comerford who fired a short burst. Sgt Stehlik also fired a short burst at a distance of about 1100 yards, but states that he was sighting and testing his guns. The attacked machine fired two red lights, the recognition signal of the day, but too late, as at the same time it burst into flames and crashed into the sea. It is feared that its three occupants were all killed.”

Totally off the top of my head but might this not have been (a Dornier I think) the one which was found near a railway line when they were laying a new one?
Seem to recall a newspaper article running the story that some young boy who died near there crash site, just before it was rediscovered, could recall details of the plane, its mission and its crew! His parents believed that he had flewn this very plane in a previous life :eek::D
