    Hi All

Well i have just read through this thred and it has turned into one big argument. Lets face it the Lightning was the best aircraft we ever made( and dont argue with me on that as you will never win) but TSR.2 NEVER went into service so we will NEVER know how good it would have been, so lets just look at the 2 that are left and say “oooh that looks good” and let the what if modelers think up ever colour under the sun that it might have worn in service.

    Hi John

That would of worked 5 years ago but not now the police put cones all the way down past the airfield so no one can park up anywhere near. You would be well out of site of anything before you could stop the car and get out

    Hi All

Vildebeest is right about the traffic with only one enterance to the airfield the traffic can tend to back up a bit, never have a problem with traffic myself as we are always there well before the public and dont leave till after you lot have all gone home.

    Hi Laviticus

If the set up is as last year the aircarft are parked so that the public can get a good look at them and they then taxi from were there parked out to the runway to take off for there display, the only stuff that is a bit harder to see is the heavy’s which are parked nere the runway.

    Hi Lightning Lad

As has been said there is nothing lightning related left at Marine Salvage, the remaining cockpit sections that didnt go back to Marine Salvage are suposed to have gone to a japan to be made into fight sims. What was left of the aircraft were sold oe scrapped If you really want a lightning you might have a long wait. Cockpit sections do come up for sale every now and again and a whole airframe once in a blue moon. 706 is coming along slowly but still making progress.

    Regards

    Hi DGH

Nice pictures, your a brave lad driving all that way in such an old car and on L plates too. Nice to see some pictures of Binbrook when it still looked like an airfield. I went for a look round a couple of years back and it was a very sad site indeed. I have pictures from all 3 moves of 706 since leaving RAF service and when i get round to scaning them i’ll post a few.

    Hi All

Thanks for the info DGH. I dont have a great deal of info on 706 between it stopping flying in 1985 and being sold off in 1988. If any one has any photos of 706 around this time please post them.

    Thanks

    Hi All

Spiteful 14 do you have any more of the aircraft that had been put out to grass at that time. My Lightning had not flown since 1985 so it would have been around the palce somewhere.

The Lightning you pictured is F.6 XS897, You can just see the front of XP706 in the background.
