Hi All
Peter im not sure post the pic and i’ll tell you.
Plazz I’m planing on getting the electrical and hydraulic systems working again on 706 once she has been rebuilt. One of the reasons that the rebuild is taking so long is that everything has to be taken apart so it can be reconnected so it will work, although in my opinion this should be the case for any restoration working aircraft or static.

Hi Peter
The Lightning in question is F.6 XS897 and the answer is no i could not be made to run again as when the aircraft was rebuilt most of the wiring was removed as it had all been cut up and to save weight.there was quite a bit of damage to the side of the aircraft above the wing where a JCB had started to smash into the aircraft to scrap it this has now been repaired. This aircraft was rebuilt with a new set of wings and a new fin which i think we from an F.53.There are quite a few pics of this aircraft around from when it was in service as this was the 5 Sqn aircraft that was painted with the full 3 colour roundels.

As the owner of as you put it Half a Lightning XP706 is far from dying it is in very good condition as it has spent most of the last 15 years outdoor. It is very compleate and is being rebuilt with a new set of wings and a new fin. Im not a rich person and i invest a lot of my spare cash in this aircraft and i think you should look into an aircrafts background before passing comment on it’s condition.

Hi Steve
No Finished marking up all the wiring. We have been building a mobile trolly to hold the rear fuselage this is now finished just the wooden formers to make then we should be ready to start taking it apart to fit the new wings (sounds easy when im typing it!)

Hi All
As a Lightning owner i hate to see the state this aircraft is in. I think the best that can be hoped for it now is for it to yeald some parts for other Lightning’s but as has been said the owner is less than helpful.
Scott C
Very Sad news indeed.

Hi all
Paul the jet pipes would fit the F.3 the bottom one is a bit bent at the bottom where its resting on the ground, but im sure that it could be sorted.

Hi all
What do people expect BAPC to do about this or any other aircraft left to rot. If a private owner leaves his property to rot into nothing thats up to him.
Scott C
Hi all
It’s about time this lightning was put out of its misery. I did try to find out who owns the aircraft with a view to trying to recover some parts, but just hit dead ends. As Mjr has said many parts have been removed over recent years the latest being the canopy after the glass had been broken. Considering the weight of the thing it must have been at least a 3 man job.
It’s a shame this aircraft has been left to rot in this way as there is only one other F.2A in the UK.

Hi All
Well someone must want to buy the rotten old thing, someone has put a bid in for it.

P.S MJR check your PM’s
Hi All.
Andrewman, No wings still not in place still constructing a trolley to hold the rear end of the aircraft so it can be moved around once into seperate parts. This is nearly ready just some formers to make and to put the whole thing together.
