Most wars do have armies and air forces with the same level of technology, training already is related to the technological expertise a nation have, nations that build their own weapon always have better training, than those that do not build their own weapons.
Wealthier nations always have better trained armies, so basicly most wars are gained by the wealthier and more developed nation.
A wealthier nation only will lose a war unless its politicans limit their generals and their civilians are unwilling to fight a war
Wow, you’ve absorbed the lessons of the Arab-Isaraeli wars. Australia doesnt build its own weapons, yet is considered on of the best armed forces in the world- why? because of good quality training and resourcefulness and fighting tradition. Morale and Training can add up to an extra kevlar vest in the field.
AND DID YOU REALLY COMPARE ROMANIA AND PARAGUAY? WHY NOT LUXEMBORG AND MONACO?
Maybe defence spending will increase under obama…… after hes diplomatic fumbling of foreign policy has started a couple of new wars!

Fighter planes is the last thing you should think about. Far far more important, all in exponents, is how will they deal with the banks and the financial crisis. That’s going to have a direct impact on your future payroll and how you are going to get money to pay off your house and send your kids to school. The geographical distance of Australia to the US means absolutely nothing when money moves at internet speeds.
Shows how much you know of the Australian economy. we are in a better position than the US at least we are not in recession! the value of the dollar does not reflect the state of the economy!

I know its just a novel, but the ideas explored in the books of Dale Brown are incredible, and despite the cost it makes you wonder why they weren’t considered. he discusses re engining with CFM 56, equipping the aircraft with a similar sensor suite to Jstars and rivet joint, as weel as standoff cruise missles and AMRAAM’s. with the size and range of the B-52, if ou applied stealth design to various parts and used RAM surfaces on a new composite material aircraft, even though fiction at the moment, would be an awesome capability, and more flexible than a carrier!
“The Messiah® is further left than Jimmy Carter and we all know how it went for the military under him. In a nut-shell the military is f–ked. The only political entity with a lower approval rating than Bush (the Democrat-controlled congress) having the furthest left in the bunch at the helm? Watch them run wild with entitlement programs. My wallet is already feeling thinner.”
I recently talked to an american on exchange over here, and he was upset the democrats threw the election away, but at least it would be McCain to lead the country. and when i asked what he meant he said all the democrats had to do was stick a white bloke in the candidacy and the election was sealed, and that people only voted for obama cause they didn’t like hillary and vice-versa- i asked him why he had that opinion and he said, “my dad marched for civil rights in the 50s, and 60s, but he’s not even ready to vote for Obama. Obama is just another politician- not the Messiah as hes cracked up to be”
personally i think the US armed forces would face there own great depression, and if Obama gets in I’m worried some bigot’s going to kill him.
and to those refferring to McCain as ‘Songbird’, it may disgust your sensibility that he talked, but i doubt anyone here has been a POW and tortured like they were. What would you do to stay alive?
And a term is only 4 years- if Obama’s military and economic policy is that bad, you can replace him.

they wouldn’t but it fits his conspiracy theory about evil iran planning to nuke the rest of the world.
here we go ago again. if you love Iran, iraq, russia so much, move there! what you just said wastes almost as much time as asking if there was air combat in south ossetia……
And the possibilities at hand if a 737 was used! choose an airline, have the plane painted and away you go! I doubt a pilot would be able to down for what for all intents and purposes would look like it was a civilian plane!
I bet whoever told him that had a good laugh with his mates in the pub later, about winding up your mate.
I’ve heard such tales many times. Did you know that at one time there were orders for 200 Concordes just about to be signed, by airlines all over the world? I had that from someone building the thing. Etc., etc. Sometimes, this nonsense is internal gossip that’s actually believed, sometimes it’s just a wind-up. But if you’re willing to bet on that, I have some very nice bridges for sale. Modest down payment (cash only, I’m afraid) & easy payment terms.
I just dont see ASC senior management as having a laugh at my mates business expense(owned by him and his father)-they have subsequently hired 7 more guys!
Maybe its for foreign sales but they guarenteed work for them in contract form! and i meet this bloke through another ADGie…… so I doubt hes making it up.
Rumor or not, if it happens the RAN will finally live up to its full regional potential
Also mentioned that during conversation, I see our retention problem every week, and he did point out alot of automation would be going into AWD type boats then originally plannes…. target crew size 150!
Here ASC is based and some interesting stuff is coming out.in response to a query of a friends welding business why only ‘x’ amount of apprentices being recruited, the reply was with only 3 AWD’s that’s all that’s needed….. ASC almost guarenteed work on minimum 5 AWD hull boats maximum 7, and 5-6 LHD type hulls! mate was stunned! apparently there are several reasons for this……. if canberra class bring the number of enlistments up, production on AWD will ramp up and include a few with enhanced ASW ability…. and three canberra class LHD’s, 2tanker/stores ships to supply enlarged fleet, 1 as training ship/hospital ship/container ship, and the slightest possibility of 1 as a submarine tender, although this may be part of the last ships role. also expecting to build a new class of 8 subs after that to replace collins- almost guarenteed work for 25 years apparently! :D:D
And its the worst kept secret about a fixed wing capability for RAN isnt it;)
Would not be surprised to see it done…… look at the potential Israel sees in them(AEW &ISAR)…… or a cheap long range bomber for a third world country?::(
there is one solution to the RAN’s manpower problems…… the third canberra. not only ccan we take the air wing off and still use it for disaster relief, but a REAL flagship provides incentive to join….. nothin like serving on a carrier flagship-enlistment numbers havent been the same since Melbourne was sold.
Hopefully after the money spent on Manoora and Kanimbla we keep them even after the two Canberra class arrive (lets hope for 3-a ‘Australia’ with fixed wing element)……. apart from USN i cant think of a regional power with that good an amphibious capability!
Carlo Kopp you jest, but he is widely respected here in australia and sees the right solution to alot of our defence problems(but he’s not always right-trust me)
