points taken, but can you see the possibility of such thoughts, why else keep sao paolo? not for the strike capabilities, but to establish a history of carrier aviation, and a bank of trained naval aviators.
considering the F1 was pretty good in arid climates, ie africa and middle east, were sales never promoted in asia/australia?
No? considering the price of scrapping them or preparing them for scuttling, as opposed to making money and securing a regional ally, why not?
mentioned at one time during debate on F-35 was whether it could supercruise……. the government claimed the manufacturer told them it could not…. hence the outcry here for F-22
the poor paint? stupid names painted on the side? oh wait I know now, how much hopes and dreams keeping them together!!!1
This could be going in a couple of directions-1), buy Rafale, (dont they have FOCH, teh ex french carrier that is able to handle Rafale?
or 2) buy F-18F, position yuorself as a vital ally, negotiate purchase of kittyhawk?
God, if people love the MiG 25 so much marry one….with what the rouble is worth…..
I read in a book for my diploma(it was regarding israel and middle east politics) that Israel could never be allowed to have F-14 or Phoenix. for fear of first strike becoming to easy……. alot easier for America to defend Israel if they have the high ground(ie, they are the victim, not the aggressor)
Also dont forget that alot of the money spent on raptors development has saved money on JSF
Yes but had insignificant range withour refueling, and a completely diffenent weapons packageand the cost of said acquisition was negated by the cheap surplus F-111 airframes in USA. was again proposed as ALARM shooter, but once again dismissed. also recon ability was small compared to RF-111C
unless as i said Brazil is playing the NATO vs Russia game and lookingh for points with NATO
point taken about mirage III, we used them as well, I meant western aircraft are the preferable choice here. I’m not saying JSF is crap. it will replace F-16 well, but it won’t be a great air superioriy fighter. and the main point is lack of choice. there are no other western stealth aircraft available for sale(except F-22)
Another thing, is it just me or are they going for aircraft with a carrier heritage, or in the case of Gripen NG, lends itself to conversion?
Another play in the new Cold War? Venezuela sucks up to Russia, Brazil snubs it in hope of closer ties with the US and NATO?
So Australia, Britain, Italy, Canada, The Netherlands, Turkey, Norway, Denmark, Israel and Singapore after almost 50 years of procuring US aircraft is just going to buy Su-27s?
Thank God Australia is the way it is……. Price is important, but not as important as having the right tools for the job…..
