Yeah that just doesnt stack up though.
Largs Bays(the area) opinion really is unimportant. Snubbing them should not be of concern on the importantance of naming a warship… I live here in Adelaide. If we are to name a warship after anything in SA it should be TORRENS….

Jervis Bay has a long tradition in the RAN….

I mean we bought it we should be able to rename it how we wish…

I have no idea why the RAN would want to retain the Largs Bay.
Largs Bay is not exactly a place to name a warship after.
    Jervis Bay, Westralia, Manoora, Australia…..
All more deserving names than Largs Bay.

I couldnt help thinking the same thing…
I mean I looked at the BBMF and thought if the cuts continue that could be the combat airpower of the once mighty RAF in a few years…
but in all seriousness why wasnt there a bigger display?
Isnt this one of the bigger occasions for which a big flypast is warranted??

Does the US have or need any plans to reactivate former bases?

with regard to the new frigates though, why not a AWD light?

we already have the facilities then to build ourselves, save on design costs

    commonality and all associated benefits…
    :confused::confused:

sorry to say but i think that OCPV and GCS style ships will be designed and built in Australia….. there is a big focus on indigenous ship building…. the only reason the LHDs were built in Spain is we couldnt have built them in the time frame required…. were as OCPVs could be built here already and GCS could without alot of effort!

yes its about the cost of a F-35… before the next price rise…. or F-111s flying for a while longer… I know what i would of preferred

Yes a fourth Hobart would be nice(be good for my home town as well!)

now just some F-35Bs…or GR.9s(i hear they are going for cheap too)

I still think something should be done to increase the troop lift capacity to 600

I just hope Largs Bays flight deck doesn’t have any obstructions bigger than 15cm… or our MRH90s wont be able to land:eek:

I use the word intent because my understanding is that sea trials are still required. if thats not the case and we have bid for it…. and won…who else was bidding?

maybe an alternative would be to build a third LHD in australia as an eventual replacement for the Largs Bay??? I believe it would be the largest warship ever built in Australia….

honestly the best and cheapest F-15E replacement is…new F-15Es or SEs.

the F-22s and F-35s are the pointy end, after that the Strike eagles mission will be much the same

why spend billions on designing a new platform to do the same job?
