    So far I Have

    Australia- bare bones bases(3)
    Singapore- road runways (1or2)
    Finland – road runways
    Poland – road runways
Germany – reserve bases and road runways

I was thinking of no aft turret, big VLS with extended flight deck, 2 or 3 seahawks, with the tomahawks and harpoons were they were on the old ships. With use of lightweight armour in place of the real heavy stuff, ships should make fair good speed!!

10 Brand new Iowa Class battleships including kevlar and light weight armour, AEGIS and 3 or 4 MK41 VLS with SM-2ER.

park it anywhere and you OWN the surrounding 100kms!!!

or they could ride shotgun for CVBGs or MEUs…..

Agreed. All the info on Super Hornet Vs Legacy Hornet is looking very good. better if Britain got 90 SHs it could afford Vs 60 JSFs that could take forever to come in service if at all and may not be affordable.

Clearly, you don’t understand Carrier Warfare. I would recommend that you do some research………..

I have studied carrier warfare- I also KNOW ground warfare- and the ground war is where the war is WON- no ifs no buts- so if the ground war REQUIRES the carriers close, they will be close. Hello we are talking about a major war, obviously you dont sail the carrier into a enemy port but you dont leave them home either.

In a worst case the F-35B can be dropped if needed without too large a hole in capability

‘And anyone who studies doctrine should know that doctrine is only the fallback for the morally weak with a lack of belief in their own capability’

I once heard a brilliant general say that at a leadership course. Are you saying the USN leadership has such lack of faith in there capabilities? Such that they wont close the gap with the gators? Or is it because they are limited by Cold War era doctrine predicting hundreds of backfires with AS-4s?

If thats the case maybe the B model is warranted. If so maybe someone should tell congress and they can get you out of the carrier buisness as the soviet navy is no longer the threat.

If a multi carrier task force cant protect itself and the gators at the same time, what a waste. If they can, the B is a waste. If not, the USN CVBGs are a waste.

did i say that? again NO.

I said they should support the move to democracy while condemning the violence and protest and steer it down a positive route for all. otherwise the Muslim Brotherhood will wind up with Egypt. Anyone think this is a good thing?

It will be interesting to see if the F-35B become of even bigger interest to Israel

Did I say reinforce with TROOPS?? NO. Did I say massacre thousands? NO. yet again you assume the worst of my words-try reading them with a open mind.

No, I mean the US come out and support Mubaraks governments reform plan and promise to keep them to it, and point out that all continued protest will lead to is death and much more open radicalism. And no one wants that.

in this situation though, the F-35B would not be needed- any idea on if the US unloads AV-8s before each evac op and how much extra this costs?

OH by the way, why would the Muslim Brotherhood own up to this? If I was them I too would be ‘surprised’…… that its going so well

Hugely different situation. The ties between the Egyptian military and the US military are perhaps stronger than any other US ally in the Mideast and elsewhere besides Israel.

So were Irans. Big links between Iran and Muslim Botherhood, who are fueling the fires. the US needs to reinforce its support of the Eygptian goverment or it will cost them $100 billion in defence aid to Israel and the Suez Canal

And 19kilo10 is right- Marine air will go on without F-35B, not the other way round. what did they do before AV-8B?its time for big cuts and i see a big over priced unneeded fish on the chopping block………

Last time I checked, Egypt was an ally – Tacair won’t be needed in this situation, but could be easily provided.

Last time I checked Iran was a US ally before the Islamic revolution……. the US is in big trouble if repeated in Egypt

Sadly I think you had some ideas of what was wanted, but that it was beyond british engineering capabilities to make without pouring too much money in. An example of why trying to spend the money at home may sound like a good way to save money and industry, but isn’t.

the P-8 also offers extra benefits for airforces that already use 737 based airframes like australia and turkey in areas like training and maintenance.

On a side note, as a ASW 737 is a P-8, does this open the way for the wedgetail AEW/C as a E(W)-8, or the BBJ 737 as a C-8?

where is boeing offering a 737 with AAR capability for small airforces:D

I know that ditching in a emergency is some times likely(ie XV?666) but to have it such an issue as to eliminate podded engines? bit daft really- why not have a boat so theres no chance it falls from the sky:p
