How can a mother not love her offspring?

The angled view is pretty slick. I had started doing one from the front, but it looked too much like the J-20. The side view is actually shortened almost 10% simply because it too suffered the ugliness of being too much like a J-20. I’m still leaning towards a FSW version of the Rafale, just without the F-117A exhaust. There aren’t too many FSW examples to borrow from save for X-29 and the Berkut. The spine and tail of the F-117 just doesn’t fit right, but it’s leaning towards an exotic look that says it is french. The tail of the Blackbird might work.

It’s a shame there aren’t many granular pictures of fighters from the Korean and Vietnam eras. I’d love to mash up the F-105.

That it is the most manga design I have ever seen. How about an appropriately Japanese paints scheme?

I’m not sure how people do that. I almost moved the engines to the fuselage like on an A-10, but it didn’t look as nice. I was also looking at a Rafale using the same forward swept wings and louvred exhaust from the F-117A. Imagine the howls on that idea. 🙂

Wrong. During the first 48 hours they tried all sorts of nonsense that backfired. They tried to mask attacks with blowing sand storms, but it turns out allied night vision saw mostly through what blinded the Iraqis themselves and counterattacks were turkey shoots.

Frenchies might get a taste of what the Libyans experienced in the Toyota War (Libyan Invasion of Chad) in the 1980s (i.e. mobile opponent able to strike anywhere and then disappear into the desert).

It worked so well for Iraqi troops.

The J-20 uses a nose and intakes similar to the F-35, a conformal bay similar to the F-22, canard and main wing arrangement similar to the Rafale, and the tail wings of the Sukhoi T-50 prototype. They definitely styled the thing around the lines of the Rafale. The most striking feature is the all moving tail surfaces that are so similar to the Sukhoi layout and functions.

The J-31 prototype team chose conventional twin tails whereas the J-20 team somehow co-released a new scheme at the same time as the Russians. Knowing that Sukhoi’s design was on the drawing board for a decade before it got the first prototype out leads me to think the Russians presented the T-50 design to a Chinese group and it got cloned.

But why is so much of the rest of its layout so similar to the Rafale?

MRCA was targeted against restricted-capability Flankers and the Gripen in C/D incantation was fully capable with proposed solutions. NG failed to meet the performance specifications like most competitors. People are also comparing apples to oranges when showing NG costs. These arguments were put to bed in posts long since archived yet the same asinine arguments continue.

If you don’t like the NG, fine. Stop thread crapping about it.

I think you’d have to revise a lot of history to get your scenario. The Mirages predated the Harrier, so instead of the latter your options are Gnats, Hunters, Lightnings and/or more US kit. No Exocet missiles, but rather Bullpups and Mavericks. Same dumb bombs.

Very confused situation there. I take it that the French are supporting the berber-muslim population that they actually beat down in previous conflicts. I don’t know a lot about Mali, but they have berbers there that have sex roles somewhat reversed where the men wear veils and the women do not.
