Yeah, but MiG-25 could hand their missile command over to GCI forty years ago, and MiG-31 could pass it from one plane to another late in its operational prototype form. So those hurdles would have been firsts for them, not everyone.
How could you discern the QM2 from the ambient noise at that range? Sounds farcical.

The Novi Avion is exactly what Dassault needed for export orders. They could have offered a partnership with Alenia for a joint Italy-French version, or perhaps another partner, in order to promote two shriveling aerospace blocks. The size of radar necessary would have been right up Marconi’s alley.
The CBG may have fewer ships but it can launch many more missiles at a time than during the Cold War.

I don’t like the Garrett engine of the OV-10, mainly because it requires a new line of parts to manufacture and supply. Rather you would want something common to the helicopters or aircraft already in the inventory of the USN or USMC. I’m thinking something based upon T700-GE-401 (approx. 1900hp; UH-60), T58-GE-16 (approx. 1900hp; CH-46), Lycoming T53-L-703 (1800hp; AH-1), Allison T56-A-14/425 (overkill at approx. 4600hp/4800hp; P-3/C-2), T64-GE-413 (approx. 4000hp; CH-53; another overkill), or some variant of the T700/CT7 in the 2500hp range. The engines for the presidential eh101 fit the bill the best imo.
The reason the AH-1 wouldn’t really work is that its supply line isn’t tenable. The engine is too labor intensive anymore and the parts aren’t exactly at the local napa. You’re better off with something already out there, or at least close to something out there. That is why the T700/CT7 option appeals to me. The 900-mile range Enforcer program was right up this alley. If they couldn’t navalize something like that then a layout like the Focke Wolfe 281 or Saab 21 would look pretty fearsome.
On the other hand one could argue for using something more in the Allison T56-A-425 powered and 2200-mile range A-2 Skyshark mold. The Skyshark was the turboshaft-powered A-1 Skyraider descendant. The skyshark was developed specifically for 500-foot deck CVE operations.
If roll rate and excess energy were paramount I’d think the MiG-23 would excel in wvr. However, it’s not a good dogfighter.
One of the reasons I would want a 2000hp class warbird is endurance. The fuel fraction of the A-1 Skyraider gave it a 1300 mile combat range with the 2700hp gasoline engine. Imagine using something that burns a more efficient fuel. You might be able to eek out a 1500 mile combat range with today’s engines and lightweight weapons. Hellfire is a lot lighter than walleye or maverick.

So true. And no artificial 250 knots limit. Quite frankly if its propeller driven its probably an asset the army is dependent upon, therefore they’d largely love the control of them.
More or less I did mean western hemisphere. You don’t have to wage war with western alliances (such as NATO) and the western G-20 countries to tie their hands, you merely need a human catastrophe to suck them in. The ‘feel good-do good’ers will force their hands to take action. Every little humanitarian aid program ties them down little by little to the point of being unable to react in serious matters closer to home.
WW1 and WW2 had very similar backdrops that led the allies astray. They were getting involved in their ex-colonial possessions far too much for their own good sakes. By the time they wised up to the issues closer to home they were completely engulfed in them.
People are all about global warming right now. But in the next decade we will see a pattern of cool down. With every pattern of cooling we get global patterns of famine, drought, and civil war over limited resources. People want to buy into the idea that oil is what makes countries tick, but its not the most important resource to the average human being out there. No, the average human being is busy in their day to day pursue of sating their needs for shelter, food, and clean water. Without those one will perish, hence the civil wars.
Yeah, the treatment is deflective angling. The aircraft flies at an angle that doesn’t reflect back. The F-22 typically flies God’s eye over the competition because it can. You just aren’t getting headon to the F-22 in most circumstances, and when you do its very temporary.
They are very large, so of course they induce drag and require additional fuel burn, but as I understand it, the pods themselves create all the electricity they require to run…
Using propellers driven by forward aircraft displacement is an external power source. It’s just not plugged in.
It doesn’t matter where the power comes from, its a drain the same. You don’t magically make or create energy from nothing.
