Only if human life is a consideration. The smaller engines have a shorter life and go kaput on more occasion. At least in theory the second engine usually gives one a ride home in those cases. At least when they actually put in a protective wall between the engines.
The market really is overly saturated with options right now, especially second hand models for the smaller air forces. It makes the production a risky business. If you don’t sell the big iron then military designs just aren’t worth the price to research & design these days. Look at the modern Yakovlev company; they depend on light aircraft sales over military-grade sales these days. Even having a solid design like the Yak-130 is no guarantee of sales.

Thing is unless the radar is shut down before launch the HARM can continue to update and refine the emitter’s location while in flight and be more accurate the longer it’s able to do that.
It doesn’t really work like that. It has a command link that can relay better positional information, but otherwise its limited to the cached data and its best eyeball reference so to speak. They can fly automated, but they are most effective when a command link guides them in. Otherwise the older versions are flying basically line of sight to the target within the hard limits of their kinetic energy curve. Its not like they have air breathing engines to circle their quarry for bit, gander around the neighborhood, sniff the pee stains around the fences, say grace, and then finally after all that choose the most thorough spot for which to aim. They just aren’t that smart.
Only problem is you’re only concerning yourself with one layer of the picture, dj, the gps module isn’t there solely for hitting coordinates gathered through sigint/triangulation. The harm is essentially becoming an extended-range gps guided bomb that may or may not be seeking out radar matrices. It will be pretty spectacular how flexible the package will be after the refit. Could finally give the government something to do with all those mark 36 rocket motors they’ve been storing all these years.

Its pretty apparent F-35B is to be the Spanish replacement for the Harrier in their navy.
Russia most likely will suffer some delays on the pak-fa program due to engine technologies. It would be ironic that the very same problem India has on their LCA program also stalls them getting a pak-fa version of a fighter.

That is absurd. Please refrain from the attacks on the integrity of the American people. We just removed a whole culture from power as a result of their completely renegade behavior on the national scene. The American people expect their leaders to hold a higher morale standard and the elections proved that exact point.
The F-35 program is a money pit that is going to produce a decent aircraft. Its a shame that it has had to be so costly for what is going to be delivered. Even if its everything promised it still doesn’t justify the costs involved up to this point.

the Su-47 looks like it would have a crappy payload. I don’t think it is capable of having heavy external stores on those kinds of wings.
It was meant to house the weapons internally and not on the wings. If anything it was meant for air superiority, which is where it would have excelled in the technology arena of its day. Probably suffered from being too pigeon holed into a single role when competing fighter designs were moving towards all purpose roles.
The Mirage F.1 in contrast, which had similar time scope and was subject to similar technological limitations, came out much better. The Russians didn’t lack the technology or the ability, but specified the wrong aircraft for any but their own (perceived) needs.
The MiG-23PD was sort of a cross between the powerful engine of a MiG-25, the delta wings of the MiG-21, and the lift jets of the Yak-38. This low chord fixed wing creature was not particularly successful in the maneuver arena due to its added weight from lift jets. But how can something lugging around dead weight like that hope to be maneuverable? Perhaps if they’d opted for more wing area and no lift jets – which would have made it a non-stol fighter – they might have had something a little more utilitarian. But since stol was so important to the requirement, its no wonder they chose the swing wing.
