We don’t have confirmation that an R-73 was launched. We do have plenty of unrelated sources to distinguish two aim-120 were launched and only confirmation on a hit is on the ground. The only target from sources for the aim-120 launches point to engagement of an MKI. The MiG-21Bison was engaged by a combination of SAM and cannon. The likeliest way it went down is from a SAM, not an aim-120.
If you don’t cancel out parasitic drag then your propeller only becomes a liability as speeds increase. Large props have great efficiency at the L/D Max, but anything beyond that you quickly lose performance. Jets on the other hand don’t have that limitation.
The latest is that no AIM-120C5 was fired at any MiG-21Bison, but there was a pair fired at a Flanker.
The MiG-21 pilot fired missiles at what is believed to be an F-16, but was more likely a JF-17. The MiG-21Bison was shot down by an ambush of SAMs.
Here’s a theory to blow everyone’s minds. The F-16 was taboo in as much as it would be taboo to admit an Su-30MKI was shot down. Both sides would be wise to offer little evidence anything but a MiG-21Bis(on) fighter and Mi-17 helicopter was shot down by a JF-17. Neither side would have to have egg on their face. The U.S. would be upset the F-16 was used. The Russians would be unpleasant if a Flanker of any type was admitted to be lost. Everyone goes home a winner. The second thing the IAF doesn’t have to mention is how awful the Su-30MKI drops bombs without the situational awareness and western navigation aids.
R73 imposed speed restrictions are far below Mach 2.
The hangars were designed for Category 3 storms. Maybe we should sprinkle them with magic pixie dust whenever a potential storm is coming. The base was already basically maxed out making the preparation they did do.
People don’t understand the magnitude of this storm. It’s an event that’s only happened three times in American history and the cone spanned an area that contained hundreds of miles of potential entry points.
So basically they’ll build Su-34 with an Su-30SM front.
With the turks joining the “One Belt One Road” alliance, what platform from China might they adopt? J-10? FC-1? J-31?
The NK-25 and NK-32 were similar, probably variations from the same family tree. It made sense to move Tu-22M3 to NK-32 and standardize around a common core. They could have just as easily adapted an attack plane around one NK-32 to boost usage across the military. It’s probably adaptable for a maritime role, too. The genius around the F100-family was its adaption to so many uses. The Russians have no such common lineage.
There comes a certain point where too much turns your vertical stab into a slicer.
Should be very similar performance to a T-50 trainer.
Some Dassault love
From a performance standpoint, it looks like Tempest is going maximum lift at minimal drag. As much as people say its ugly, it’s actually a composition of minimal performance compromises with modular utility and functionality taking precedent. It’s not a terrible design in any way. And I bet it will look much better in practice. I just dislike the name.
Germany impose a fighter on Sweden. Phfft.
Until there is a drastic re-awakening of the German public, don’t expect military spending to increase drastically any time soon. Its a shame such a beautiful country is being stolen underneath their noses. The Russia-friendly Merkel government loved shifting money to their equivalent of socialist welfare. Do it for the poor children. Do it for the helpless elders and the invalids. Do it for the innocent migrant children. Putin just laughs at the west and how easy they’ve made it for him to run his scheme. Lots of German government spending sucked directly to Moscow for oil & gas supplies. Allegedly. Everyone knows Merkel is a Putin puppet. Even if America sells LNG to the EU, the fake eco-friendly German government will justify buying the dirtier supplies from Russia. German ministers lied to their population about green energy and money went east. I hope Typhoon technology doesn’t get sucked up, too.
That is a great find
