Too bad the database is locked down, otherwise you could write a patch. Using public data of course… 🙂

J-7 has to be the worst jet to operate. MiG-21bis is a superior jet that enjoys multitudes of hours between major work over J-7. An old MiG-21bis is probably still easier to maintain than a new J-7, which is why China exports so few.

No doubt the Su-47 and X-29A had the coolest wings.

Northrop should have shrunk the YF-23 design into a single engine for the JSF contest.

I don’t know any business jets that can outrun an A380…

Canopies degrade from abrasion. The ultrafine particles in the air sand blast microchannels that eventually lead to hot spots and they become even more quickly degraded. I cannot imagine any of the glass canopies for MiG-31 are rated much higher in MTBR than their D30’s.

I imagine that heavy metal pollution in the air is awfully rough on the exposed structural elements on Russian aircraft. Take a spoon full of pure gallium and put it on an aluminum radiator. After about an hour you can rip a hole in the radiator using a glove over your hand of course. Don’t expose your skin to it. Russian air quality is something to be desired. China I am sure is having similar problems. Western countries would never allow such a mess.

From close-up pictures it looks like each variation is special built for specific tasks. Multirole probably wasn’t in their blood.

How about mods clean up what began as a talk about a simulation and trolls turned into a debate about crap none of them know about personally. Stop turning every thread here into crap with tactless OT nationalism.

The MICA is horribly expensive. $2.7 mil each for the set ordered for the Mirage upgrade. Compare that to the cost of the AMRAAM at $1.7 mil each.

A more applicable question might be why didn’t they equip the Mirages with the Astra (and Python 5). Perhaps they didn’t have the same confidence in the program then, that they do today after a series of successful test launches. Or just as likely, the costs demanded by Dassault/Thales to integrate the two were far too high (even considering the price of the MICA).

I don’t think MDBA wants competition on the market for AAMs mounted on EF or Rafale. Quite frankly MDBA should be trying to boost MICA IR sales, knowing full well it cannot compete against AMRAAM D nor Meteor. But MICA IR is a unique niche outside designs since the days of the Soviet Bloc. And none of them being used for search underwing nor LOAL.

From what I understood people say was Pk was directly affected by about 20 factors, from jamming to altitude. I cannot imagine the Pk isn’t simulated as accurate as possible.

The sim could be fun to pit such contrasting styles against each other as Venezuela versus Brazil.

So buy Meteor for Rafales. Problem solved.

Now why would one ‘fly’ the boat backwards?

Because the propeller is on the back /two drum beats and a cymbal
