The Soviet airframes were not particularly terrible compared to Western designs so much as your typical Soviet designs were not armed with anywhere near the same level of quality ordnance. Their kinematics were excellent. Their guns were fine. Their guidance systems were a decade behind. Their communications equipment substituted brute strength for finesse and couldn’t keep pace with developments. Give the Soviets any advantage and they would have had reasons to act aggressively.
The Su-15P, MiG-23P, MiG-25P, and Tu-128 were bomber destroyers. That pretty much eliminates them out of the contest.
The L159T being negotiated for were in storage and parts had to be resecured. The avionics and engines were probably sold off previously as the Czechs have been cash poor trying to find sales of anything aerospace. The new generation L-39 looks easier to sell. Everybody in L-159’s market wants to build their own because so much is available on the open markets.

The tails of Lockheed’s F-117A, Sukhoi’s T-50, and Shenyang’s J-20 are very interesting. All moving and at steep angles. Not your typical rudders or tail plane-elevators. Useful for pitch and roll control, plus at the same time augments the yaw control.
Well, to tell you the truth combat range isn’t always best range with the load. It is custom tailored to a set of specific vectors, sometimes meant to be misleading. Cutting back on the throttle on most turbojets and turbofans will improve range drastically, but be altogether useless in combat mode.

Feathering or not, auto-rotating props are a load of drag. They never solved this issue.

J75 was a pretty powerful engine and like I was getting at, there was no suitable turbofan engine to replace the J75. Probably not a single one until the F100, which had its own teething problems. F-16A was the single F100 warplane and built for hard manuevers. F-105 failed as a demonstrator because it just wasn’t stressed for hard manuevers. Don’t underestimate the F-105 in dry thrust, because wet or dry the thing had a speed advantage over the interceptors it faced. Look down & shoot down radars negated this advantage.

And they probably matched its AoA for level flight. Planes in that era cruised with a slight pitch up. This was before leading edge slat extension.
Basically trying to use helicopter rotor transmissions in a jet. Lose the engine it becomes a massive air brake. Not cool.
All somewhat irrelevant for the time period of Vietnam war era. The RN and RAF didn’t enjoy the the same inflight refueling capability that the F-105 had available to it.
OT- Not too any USAF aircraft enjoyed two ways to refuel like F-105D. That was an advantage, too.
Because production was only over a short seven year period, the F-105 didn’t enjoy a re-engine program like the Buccaneer. There really wasn’t a good candidate turbofan to put into it anyhow. The Buccaneer, using two much smaller engines was much easier to upgrade its design.
