I must admit I agree to some degree on the “real” fake monster movies, rather than the CGI-created versions.

Yeah,me to.I much prefer the “in camera” efx in the first 3 Star Wars films.The computer adjusted versions took away some of the magic.
Jurassic Park 1 is also a classic for actual models in front of the camera.Who can forget the T-Rex attack on the 4×4’s and the close shots on Ripley when she confronts the Alien.Pure model magic!
The Granddaddy of them all,for me,is 2001.Everything you see on screen is REAL.It took me years to find out how the stewardess replaced the floating pen into Dr Floyd’s pocket.
But,CGI has it’s place.Without it,half of the films in the past few years would have been un-makeable.But,and a big but here,it must look convincing,unlike The Sand Man in Spiderman?;The long shots of the Titanic sinking (shocking blue/green screen work).I could go on but I wont.
IMHO,as far as SFX are concerned,I’d go for quality over quantity everytime,and computer CGI still has a long way to go to convince me.
