Well, the Butcher Bird and the green Yak(?) came out okay. Not so sure aout the rest, though…got any of the bomber trio?
Well, I’ll add my opinion and say that IMPO it was one of the best ‘Legends’ in quite a while – and I’ve been going for quite a few years now. I guess it’s down to what ‘floats your boat’ but there was plenty to float mine yesterday ! 😎
Have to say I agree with you there. I’ve just come back from Legends, since my dad and I always make the second show (purely as a matter of convenience and tradition), but so far from what I’ve heard there was little difference in the two days. The 190 and 109 together was new for me, as was two Sea Furies (YES!), and I too found something new in it despite the several years I’ve been attending. We had the honour of being graced by the Lancaster’s presence, but I was miffed by the Campaign Against Aviation keeping TFC in a hangar for the weekend – I wanted to see the Bent-Wing Bird!
Still, two Sea Furies, a Seafire, a Sea Hurricane, two Skyraiders, a 109, a 190 and the three B-25’s did it for me.
Oh, and the Horsemen? A truly astonishing trio, for my mind. I love the Mustang anyway, but they showed it off in ways I haven’t seen yet. I was ver pleased 😀
I was wrong about Sgt Hannah, the man you are really after is Sergeant Norman Jackson Put his name in Google and it will give you nightmares if you know anything about aircraft
I think I’ll do that too, actually – I don’t know anything like enough about the people behind the actions. Thanks for that.
but for me i would have to say the Sea Vixen. For sheer size, sound, features (folding wings, arr hook), raw power but also grace in the air it would take some beating.
Given my username, you would think I would have chosen a few that reflect the opinion! Yes, the Sea Vixen is a real beauty, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it on the ground – once I saw it fly I was sold!
And, of course, what better reason to love it other than it’s British? 😀
My personal Legend among Pilots has to be Douglas Bader
Yes, but your biased – you met the man! 😀
That is beautiful footage! The mustang is one of my all-time favourite warbirds, so to see it in the air that close is priceless – thanks for posting this 🙂
The gun isn’t a precision weapon?
It’s the most discriminatory method of delivering effect available to the helicopter or fixed wing aircraft.
Even more so for the helicopter I’d say, because they can move slowly enough or hover to MAKE it precise. To say it’s an area weapon only is madness, at best.
I was chatting to the Harrier Display pilot at Shoreham Airshow and he disclosed that the approved Harrier display consumed 1.3 tons of fuel. That’s a lot of money whoever is paying for it
You are, of course, along with every other punter who pays entry fee, buys a programme or eats a hotdog from the catering vans. Where do you think all the profits go? :p
I think time of flight and range with hypervelocity rounds are the future, it’s a matter of logistics to make it happen for large service branches.
That’s as may be, but you mentioned the problem with that line of thought right there in your comment – the future. Until hypervelocity rounds and the weapons to handle them are in full, bug-free service, what we’ve got is ALL we’ve got. 30mm is, for most people’s money, quite a good all-round cartridge when it comes to aerial armament, since it can punch through all but the thickest of armour, tear through light vehicles like wet paper and, with HE rounds, can be good against troops.
Besides, who said overkill was a bad thing? :p
I also think 30mm is an overkill. 20mm is just fine, even .50cal might work for most jobs in infantry support and against technicals.
Depends what you’re using it for. 30mm is better for tank-splitting, which is certainly a plus if you run out of Hellfires and all you have left is rockets or the gun.
Besides, who says overkill is a bad thing? 😀
You couldn’t make it up could you?:D I am often astounded by the stupidity of some of these people
Aah, the joy of people, eh? Companies like that are dumber than we give them credit for, usually :p

Yes, but what a show it puts on for it!
‘Course, nothing compared to the growl of the big piston-engined blighters, but still…
