Hi,
Just to show you that snow is not always bad and can actually be enjoyed, here’s our family cabin in the mountains. I just bought my father-in-law’s Audi Quatro wagon (he bought a new car, 4WD of course).

It helps to have a friendly farmer with a snow-plough/tractor liveing close to the cabin!
cheers,
-John
*chokes on his own laughter*;)
You beat me to it Gollevainen, we have had some snow here, just a little more than normal!

Winter at Sylling cemetary………
I visited the RAF graves at Sylling today……

LEST WE FORGET
-John
I nearly suggested the Harrier myself. It’s in no way sleak, it’s got bulges all down the sides, it sits high and has undercarriage sticking out at odd places all over the bottom. We’re so familiar with it (and rather fond of it) that we ignore how odd it looks, especially in it’s original form.
So how about the Phantom? That’s another rugged but unattractive airframe. And the Jaguar.
As Jetflap pointed out there are a lot of aircraft that we would probably consider ugly except for the fact that we are so used to them that they pass almost unnoticed!
I really like Harriers and have never considered them ugly, but the T.2,4 & 8 do take a bit of getting used to!
(I hold my hand up and cut off the rear boom and they don’t look as bad!).
cheers,
-John
I used to love them books at the newsagents back home long ago………
“Achtung Spitfire”………..”AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!”

[SIZE=”3″]Spitfire Mk.IX in the Israeli air Force Service 1948 – 1956 by Alex Yofe
(White Crow Publications, San Jose. CA, USA)
I knew nothing about Israeli Spitfires, or the rag tag beginnings of the IDF.
Israels first Spitfire (D-130) was made from parts from the RAF base scrap piles and a crashed Egyptian Spitfire!
I did not know that 30 Burmese Spitfires came from Israel!
I’m still reading this interesting photo filled book! (great photos!).
I bought a Harrier book from the US, it went missing then turned up (a bit bent) via England. The seller, said he would send another book as a gift and asked what I’m interested in, I said Spitfires & Harriers. The above book arrived on tuesday.

Hi Owen,
yes it’s interesting alright.
That list of Helmut Lent’s victories without the Sunderland listed is strange but I guess there are a lot of folks that make up lists as a hobby and miss something.
I just found this interesting Google vid that actually shows Lent as a nightfighter leader, even has him talking in the film!

Interesting that this shoot down is not listed in this site on Helmut Lent:
Hi D1566,
That’s very strange, it’s well documented, I looked for a contact on the link to send a link to this thread but there seemed to be no way of contacting them!

Do some of the crew appear to have the darker Australian uniform.
John
Hi, (interesting thread!)
I noticed the shape of the pilot’s brevet as RAAF (Australian made type) before the ‘not as dark as normal’ RAAF uniform.
The same type as the first on the left under this…… (RAAF, RAF, RNZAF & RCAF)
I wonder where the lovely ‘Alice Lorraine’ ended up? (nice boat!)
cheers,

There is a 3(F) Harrier era patch available from Terrane.co.uk for the grand sume of £4.06…
Thanks SJJ, I emailed them, but they only sell the 3 Sqdn. crest with white background, I’m after a black background one (new or used). It sounds like ashamim has exactly what I am looking for,
cheers,
-John
I believe I have late 60’s early 70’s version of the 3 Sqn crest patch in my trade box. Condition not that great. If anyone’s interested, let me know
PM sent,
cheers,
-John
Thanks Dave,
