It does make me wonder if they ever existed in the first place!
I second that request. In the photos I’ve seen, including the time lapse video, there is something not quite right in the geometry. It looks a lot like a roll was carried out, but something isn’t quite right.
If there is an investigation, I hope they dont go by a doctored video on Youtube.
Which doctored video would that be?
Incorrect. I saw it happen myself. Awesome though it was, it was reckless in the extreme
I am told there are at least two videos in the possession of the CAA. One moving images, another a flick-book of stills. Both show XH558 being barrel rolled, conclusively.
Why else do you think the crews for the two subsequent flights haven’t been named publicly? And why this horse manure about getting the OK from Doncaster Airport before a final flight? The CAA have been on their case from October 5th onwards, according to my source that is why there’s been no flight
It all seems mighty odd, sort of like the adage ‘if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it…’. So they contravened CAA rules, purely for the benefit of the residents of Grantham who were looking in the right place at the right time? It would seem that the roll was carried out at some altitude, if the lone photo I found on Flickr is anything to go by. In light of Shoreham, an’ aw that, why not either roll the aircraft very publically, but over the sea and with a supporting commentary to put the crowd at ease? Why sneakily carry out a roll and incur the wrath of the CAA this way? Why do it at all?
There is no footage of the Vulcan rolling at Grantham, whilst there is a fair quantity of footage of every other part of its display from that day. Make of that what you will.
Video of Avro Shackleton WR985 at Long Marston, England
Fascinating drone footage. The Shack looks oddly mystical for being in such an advanced state of decay. I hope something of it is saved.
A heritage asset? Possibly, as a flyer, XH558 is unique. Grounded, she’s one of several.
With the dubious honour of having a lot of historically interesting kit ripped out to save on weight!
Just another excuse for prices to go up.
The NHS is under enough strain as it is, without a 1,300ft-wide asteroid coming over here. I bet its called Muhammad or something like that. Why isn’t it staying up in space fighting ISIS? Bunch of cowards, these asteroids. One of those ‘enricher’ asteroids the Blairite government forced upon us. Come to think of it, Benidorm isn’t even British any more either. I would emigrate while you still can. Gone to the dogs, so it has.

What’s so contemptible about British types ?
I did, of course, mean contemporaneous rather than contemptuous. I could have used contemporary of course, but I like to walk on the wild side once in a while.
Tired, eyes, Mozilla Firefox’s built in spell checker function, lack of proof reading and lack of personal accountability entirely typical of us millennial types are of course all to blame.
I understand that some B29s had de-icing boots, whilst others didn’t. I only know this because only one of the three or so that Tupolev worked on to create the Tu-4 had a boot fitted. I’m not sure about contemptuous British types.
The same tread pattern shows up on this Onions towed scraper.

Clearly smaller tires, so I think this picture really only proves that this tread pattern wasn’t just used on B-17s.
Apropos human rights, this country was all set to get into bed with the Saudis over a deal to train their prison staff. He who cast the first stone, and all of that.
I thought you lot hated the very concept of human rights anyway?

Surely most of what is written above could also apply to XM603, or any number of other outdoor Vulcan? The speed at which XL319 is being repainted, and I do have the utmost respect for the NEAM team on taking on a Vulcan, doesn’t bode well.
