56 died in the Bradford City stadium fire, which was traced back to a discarded cigarette butt.
Just saying…
Good try.
Most newsprint is recycled paper, hence the actual base colour of the paper. It might be mixed with virgin pulp from quick growth, harvested forests (spruce, fir and pine) but, even then, this is usually waste product (off-cuts, sawdust, etc) recycled from other wood-using industries which allows the newspaper industry to declare themselves to be eco-friendly – apparently more so than toilet paper, which can be as much as 25% new wood pulp.
If you discount the energy involved in initially planting, harvesting and processing the timber, you could argue that the removal of monoculture stands of Sitka spruce, and other non-native deciduous species is actually rather good for overall biodiversity. 🙂
Both my partner and I are involved with the bee hives at our respective workplaces. A very noble idea Geoff, and one I can fully get behind.

That I did not know, but it explains the opinions of some of my friends. 😎

In short…
Hi. Morning.
I went to the above web site but it’s now closed. It gives http://www.ipso.co.uk as the new means of complaint. I hope they are busy, what with cures for everything, storms and droughts coming (I still don’t follow this bit). Although, as has been mentioned, any whiff of smoke or engine splutter will now be plastered across the front pages.
Regards,
Jack.
Not sure that everybody would agree with your assentation that capitalism is a long term success.
I’d give it a few more decades before making that claim.
Success in terms of getting us to a certain point as a species, perhaps?

Miss Representation?
I didn’t know there was a Spitfire in there. I caught most of the Tattoo flypasts; a couple of Hercs, a couple of Typhoons and a C17 Globemaster. I missed the King Airs on the opening night. Normally the flypasts 100% Phoonery, and the other aircraft were apparently included because of the BoB Anniversary events. Quite why they didn’t get the BBMF involved, and used a couple of different transports to add a dash of colour, is beyond me.
…Or Capitalism have no relevance because it was invented by a Sumerian even longer ago?…
Surely the long term success of capitalism has rendered Marxism largely impotent? Marxist archaeology, to give but one example, was popular in the 20th Century but is largely discredited and ignored within that field now.

I checked the salt shaker at my local chippie, and it had more than 5 holes, though many of them appeared blocked. I’m a sucker for salt on my fish and chips, so I have a tall white table salt ‘shaker’ at home. This thing dispenses salt out of a chute in the lid, so you don’t want to shake it! I tend to dispense a small quantity of salt into the palm of one hand and sprinkle it over food with the other. Fight the system!

Anybody that threatens to split up the current Labour party and is criticised by both Diane Abbott and Alastair Campbell must be a good thing. :eagerness:
Perhaps this is all a bit of a moot point, as there seems to have been a slow shift to the right across much of Europe in the last decade or so. Perhaps some of the central ideas behind left-wing politics, such as Marxism, are looking more than a little long in the tooth in this day and age. Too academic and idealistic to be of any real use. Having said that, Corbyn seems like a throwback to the ’70s or ’80s, so he could drag Labour back to more traditional values and away from their current entrenchment in amorphous centre-right values that give them no standout features or policies.
I’m not sure where Corbyn fits in, but when he tries to appeal to certain areas on the left (such as his weird notion of readily indefinable woman-only railway carriages) he bungles it completely. I don’t think any feminists would favour a Sharia-lite policy such as that. If he gets rid of Nuclear defence and pulls us out of Nato then we can expect to see more Bears in our skies!
