Interflug, yes I know about the flights, we are only scheduled to Izmir from Heathrow and then Ercan becomes a different flight code when we arrive in Turkey.

I don’t agree about British Airways operating the A380, I think only a few routes would justify the aircraft such as Asia and the Middle East. The Trans-Atlantic market is just too saturated with even the 747-400 not becoming a viable option with airlines operating with priority on frequency rather than capacity. Though I don’t think they could keep them away forever, if the rate is good enough then it would be inevitable that British Airways would take the aircraft. Just look at slot constraints at Heathrow and how the A380 could affect them. At the end of the day no major airline will be able to ignore the aircraft.

Hand, it wouldn’t surprise me with all that extra capacity they will be placing on the new Bournemouth route. Might as well fly an unsustainable route in style šŸ˜‰

Oh excellent Interflug, I didn’t think anybody would have travelled them šŸ™‚ Was it to Ercan that you travelled? I had heard mixed reports so I was a bit daunted about travelling them, not your average everyday airline after all.

Anyway, thanks all for the information, I am actually looking forward now to the A310 aircraft now. I have taken the impression of the ā€œfat 767ā€ as a guidance šŸ˜‰ Kabir, I seem to have forgotten why you despise the aircraft, why exactly is that if you don’t mind me asking?

LBARULES, I heard it was totally different to the south in terms of being unspoilt and much more attractive due to the lack of tourism. From brochures it looks splendid, very picturesque. I suppose, however, it will be an up and coming tourist destination in the future though at the moment because of political reasons and also travel reasons (there is a 45 minute stopover in Turkey for passports), it has been relatively left out. In the future let’s hope that they don’t succumb to mass tourism or at the least get it right in terms of infrastructure and tourist amenities unlike so many resorts have.

FreshAer is a bit of a laugh, can you actually imagine a worse market to compete in? It is totally saturated. What makes it even more rediculous is that they are using the 757, fine try to exploite the market a bit more but the 757 is just not suited to that job. Their naivetƩ is astounding, have they ever heard of Ryanair or are their eyes closed? Remember what happened to GO on the route?

Ryanair must be shaking in their boots :p

The Funchal shots are always spectacular. What I find quite amazing is that TAP fly from Funchal to Caracas, it must be a brilliant shot with the A340.

They are your average charter airline so nothing really to note about them. I travelled them last year and I was not exactly impressed with the service though it was only a 1.30 hour flight so no major problems.

Flybe. have tried new routes from Exeter before yet they never seemed to have done well. However, it will hopefully be a wake up for people in the region to use Exeter airport, as attempts in the past have not bought in sufficient numbers to make services viable. To be honest I think the market is too small with the potential market going to Bristol and Bournemouth etc.

The Mediterranean destinations are always good but have you seen the frequency of the UK destinations? Late in the day and only of once daily frequency, they emphasise the convenience to local businesses’ but they are hardly convenient timings. People who want early departures and same day arrivals would have to continue using Bristol to the success of those routes remain to be seen.

China Eastern is quite welcome to the UK. I posted about it a while back with the proposed dates being in June though obviously this didn’t happen. I think they also added Moscow.

Vietnam to Germany is positive news of yet more expansion to Europe though straight on to a 777 is quite large to open a new market with. Any sign on UK flights?

I was on G-JEBD last week. The Belfast flight continues on to the Channel Islands afterwards so it makes sense.

JetMagic’s route from Cork to Belfast I have heard does not have the best of loads but the leisure destinations are very positive. However, good news is that some seasonal routes are being kept on for the winter such as Nantes and rumours suggest Jersey also. With new routes to Liverpool, CDG and Edinburgh they must be doing quite a good trade on their routes.

Thanks for that information. I suppose that is the reason why the Skyservice A320s can be seen with the UK charters in the summer months. Actually I thought the Star Airways/ Air Transat deal was quite good where there was an exchange of aircraft between the two carriers during seperate periods as they both have different market needs at different periods so the exchange of aircraft helped see no aircraft going to waste and also generating extra revenue.
