What concerns me at the moment is the possible impact low cost carriers will have on national carriers in Eastern Europe. Currently these regional airlines generally fail to offer low prices and sustain their operations on a full service model. When the big guys like Ryanair or Easyjet take up the opportunity to move into the market then it will be highly effective on the national carriers when cost saving European travellers take the cheap option and desert their national carriers. Fine, it should stop national carriers having the monopoly of the routes in Eastern Europe and it will make them revamp their prices or change their marketing strategies, but how low can they go and for how long? I just don’t believe that an airline like Malev would have the expertise and finance to offer any sort of opposition to the new wave of carriers.

It will be interesting to see how Malev and Sky Europe compete.

It is sharp and appealing but it has that same generic western appearance of every other airline in Europe. It’s just not Aeroflot, where is the unconventionality of it? Sad really, but that’s progress for you I guess.

There are a few off the top of my head,
    London-Dublin
    London-Amsterdam
    London-Paris

Not really accurate but probably amongst the busiest in general.

    .

I thought so….I know a pass is up to an E but no employer really looks at anything below a C I am told. I am not really interested in being a pilot but I was just wondering what you needed.

I’m not sure what relationship Swiss has with Cathay but it mentions it on the Oneworld article, whether it is code-sharing or just frequent flyer links I am not sure.

Some very cool pictures on the Oneworld site welcoming Swiss in style…

All of the members except LAN Chile I think. It was near enough in there already 😉

At what grades are these at? A-C or the actual pass boundary? I’m taking my GCSEs this school year and those actually seem quite reasonable compared to what I had thought would be needed in terms of qualifactions.

Interesting, I already have 2 GCSEs under my belt so here is to the rest :p

It is excellent news to hear that Swiss are developing an alliance with British Airways and are joining Oneworld. While Swiss still retains its current financial problems I believe that becoming a member of a strategic alliance will only enhance its development while still holding its national identity, something that was less certain with Lufthansa as it most probably became a feeder operation.

It has been a long time in coming but Swiss now offers Oneworld some added benefits. Firstly it now gives Oneworld the ability of adding a new global hub to its network at Zurich. Oneworld now has a second premium hub rather than just Heathrow, which strengthens its position in Eastern and Central Europe. Secondly the number of destinations offered by the alliance will increase by 8 with Cameroon a new destination for the alliance (exciting). Really it was a logical choice for the airline to join Oneworld; they have already a number of relationships with Oneworld members with British Airways seemingly being the only barrier in the past.

However, I can’t but help think that maybe the major benefits are to British Airways. The airline stands to lose little if Swiss went bankrupt, something I doubt will happen, however, if it did then it would gain much in terms of assets so it was a very clever move. Maybe it is me but I don’t think that British Airways was the driving force behind this, I think American and other members pushed them into this development as British Airways were never that gratifying before, maybe it was for their own purposes more? *Heathrow slots…*

But anyway, it is good to see Swiss in Oneworld. Hopefully it could make new funds more readily available for Swiss.

I think the notion of flying between Luton and Jersey in the winter with a 737 is absolutely absurd. Flybe. could not even support the Dash 8 in the winter. I wish them the best of luck but the demand by locals for Luton is minimal and I doubt it is the most popular time of the tourist season for UK visitors.

Yes their fleet will be rather under-utilised. While three new flights to Prague, Faro and Geneva may take up some of the reductions in capacity they will not account for destinations like Alicante or Barcelona where there has been quite a drop in frequency or Nice and Bergamo, which suggest through loads that they could be dropped. To me it seems rational if they have spare capacity then they launch some new destinations with these new aircraft to destinations that would seemingly do well in the middle of winter rather than having aircraft laying about.

That is what i’m suggesting, currently Uzebekistan fly Taskent-Birmingham-New York with the 767, at least I believe that to be true. Is this new 767 direct then or is at added diversion in the current New York flight?

Some pretty good pictures there. The AF 777 looks fantastic at such a close up and perculiar angle.

Do these flights originate in Tashkent then?

I’m wondering if JAT might be showing interest in a new fleet of aircraft if they are showing signs of expansion? Seems a prime candidate to me.

Very good news for Jet2, I have seen a few of there load factors and they seem to be doing very well on certain services. They do seem to be making use of their available capacity but can Leeds/Bradford hold this?

I reckon that you will probably see a few more high rotation flights such as Belfast etc in the future. It would seem logical if you were basing more aircraft at the airport and recruiting more cabin crew.
